MasterGuns Posted March 30, 2015 #1 Posted March 30, 2015 Planning on a SS 1000 at a minimum, leaving home at about 0200 or so this Tuesday morning. When I hit the halfway point for my SS1000 (Sierra Blanca, Tx), if my saddle isn't overly sore, I will continue on to Lordsburg, NM, turn around and head back home. Will divert through Fort Stockton, Tx then head north to Monahans then east on 20 finishing up in Willow Park, Tx; interstate the entire way. Should be a tad over 1500 miles and I have got to do this in less than 36 hours. On a 28 year old bike at that. If I wasn't going through chemo, I'd buy a new bike and take that on this attempt but spending all that money now could be the wrong thing to do. wish me luck
pope3567 Posted March 30, 2015 #2 Posted March 30, 2015 Best of luck Gunney...let us know how it turns out. Stay safe...
gez Posted March 30, 2015 #4 Posted March 30, 2015 The weather can make this chore much more difficult than need be. Good luck, ride safe and may the weather be in your favor.
10spd Posted March 30, 2015 #5 Posted March 30, 2015 I have plans to try a ss 1000 this year. Also on my 28 year old bike.
gez Posted March 30, 2015 #9 Posted March 30, 2015 read all about it here: http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/
RedRider Posted March 30, 2015 #10 Posted March 30, 2015 Saddle Sore 1000. It is an entry ride for the Iron Butt Association. 1000 miles (1600km) in 24 hours. One of the other entry rides is the Bun Burner 1500 (BB1500). This is 1500 miles in 36 hours. RR

DragonRider Posted March 31, 2015 #14 Posted March 31, 2015 Good luck on you SS1000, I would love to try that some day, but dont know if I could stay in the saddle that long with all my problems. Who know maybe one day......I feel lucky to get out these days and do a 100 or so miles, but this summer there is going to be more riding.
Barrycuda Posted March 31, 2015 #15 Posted March 31, 2015 I'm sure you'll do fine Gunny. Just make sure you don't put self in harms way regarding weather and speed. You can always turn back and try another day. That said, go for it and keep us posted. Sheeeet, riding in Texas alone gets you a SS1000
Squidley Posted April 1, 2015 #16 Posted April 1, 2015 Your my hero Herb! I'm hoping to do them both at the end of April when I get laid off, I'll have a little more time to do it then.
MasterGuns Posted April 1, 2015 Author #17 Posted April 1, 2015 I made it back home; just put up the scoot and boy am I beat. 1042 miles in just under 16 hours. Tell you about the ride later. Goodnight y'all.

RedRider Posted April 1, 2015 #20 Posted April 1, 2015 Well done. To do this under 16 hours shows discipline of a true LD rider. Congrats. RR
