MickO Posted March 27, 2008 #1 Posted March 27, 2008 OK, chaulk this up for a new owner getting to know his bike. When I turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, everything lights up fine... but I also hear a clicking noise for about one second or so. Help a newbie learn more. What is the sound that I am hearing. Thx. in advance.
KeithR Posted March 27, 2008 #2 Posted March 27, 2008 I would say its your fuel pump building up pressure. Keith
stardbog Posted March 27, 2008 #3 Posted March 27, 2008 Yep As Keith Said Thats Fuel Pump and if you dont hear that noice you are in trouble.
Eck Posted March 27, 2008 #5 Posted March 27, 2008 That is one of the GOOD sounds on this bike.. If you dont hear that sound, I promise you wont be going on a very far ride...
yamahamer Posted March 27, 2008 #6 Posted March 27, 2008 I just learned something new...I thought it was carb heaters. when it's cold they tick longer.
gibvel Posted March 27, 2008 #7 Posted March 27, 2008 Well, if you don't here it when you haven't ridden for awhile it could be trouble. If you've just stopped somewhere for an hour or a couple min. you probably won't hear it because you're float bowls will still be full.
SaltyDawg Posted March 27, 2008 #8 Posted March 27, 2008 I just learned something new...I thought it was carb heaters. when it's cold they tick longer. Actually for most people when it's cold they don't ride as often and therefore the gas evaporates out of the carb bowels thus causing the fuel pump to stay on longer. BTW save yourself some electrical power and pull the fuse for the carb heaters. I have ridden in 17degree temps with mine disconnected and have noticed no performance difference.
