If it's in decent shape I'd stay his price is quite reasonable. I paid $2500 for mine 5 years ago and the plastic was pretty rough.

At that price I'd say he needs the floor space. You might offer him $2,300........

The Comprehensive Vintage Motorcycle Price Guide lists it at about double for good condition. Perfect condition is listed at $7800.

No sane person would pay that much imho but it makes me feel good to see it in print. I sometimes list mine, though haven't sold it, and get lookers at $3000 who all ask what is the bottom line. For me, it's "I don't need to sell it."

I bought my 89 vr in February for the hefty sum of 1100. Now it's by no means perfect, has a little damage on the left side fairing where it fell over in a garage, and with minimal tinkering everything works but the cb. I haven't even looked into that yet

This is interesting to me since I have been considering the purchase of a new touring bike. My biggest hold up is that I find nothing at all wrong with my Venture except for the fact that I worry about the reliability after all these years. There are so many times I get on it and feel this bike is perfect, why would I want something different. I had it repainted last year so it looks 95% as good as it did new and everything still works. There is really very little weathering what so ever. I have seen a few others and they all have looked like they spend a lot of time out in the weather. So I ask myself what could I get for it if I sold it. Maybe $4,000 but from what I am reading here, I think I'd be lucky to get $3,000. Ok I only paid 7k for it with 600 miles on it in maybe 1990. Its been so long I don't remember what year it was. I really think I will probably end up keeping it even after I buy something new. When the day comes that I have a new ride that I get on more often than the venture then maybe I'll be able to part with it. Only time will tell. It would sure be nice if some day these things would start to go up in value. Something tells me that won't be for a very long time.

In 2010 I paid $2500.00 for my 89VR and it had just under 24k miles and in really nice condition...You can see it on my profile...I think it is under the album 1st Trip After 27 Years...Just Don't get it confused with 91 VR for it had 6500 miles and was in mint condition until I wrecked it.

Wow! I just viewed your photos of your wrecked bike. You really tore that one up. I'm glad you survived to tell the tale.
