When you wiggle the throttle control is there free play before it moves carbs. If the cables are not set right it will not go back to idle by itself. You have to turn it back. It could be a frayed cable also. these have a push and a pull cable on throttle. The pilot jet is for idle circuit. Only works to around 2500 rpm aprox. On the left side just below the neck is a terminal box where the cables connect. If its like the 83s you should be able to see if there where they should be has reference marks on it.

Also loosen up the idle screw see if that drops idle down. If the idle is set to high will not slow down once warmed up. temp makes a difference on mine

Thank to each of you the throttle cable has been checked and the mech said it was ok I do have a new cable if I need it I will check again. I am wonder if the pilot jets were ever cleaned if maybe they are stopped up Just from what I have read on here

The issue you are having sounds like that the bike wont idle but stays at 3000 RPM instead of at around a 1000 RPM. Make sure the choke cable isnt hanging up on you if you use that to start it or if it is already engage at the carbs. With the left side cover off you should see the choke lever moving up and down as you move the choke lever on the left handlebar. I would make sure that the cable is lubed at the handlebars and moves freely in the cable housing and if needed there is an adjustment at the carb for the choke cable.

Also be aware there is a junction for the throttle cable that might also need to be lubed where the cruise control connects. The handlebar cable doesnt actually go the carbs but instead connects at a junction box and another set of cables goes to the carbs from there. I would look at all the cables first since you have had the carbs rebuilt. Here is a link to a parts diagram for the junction box. 1993 Yamaha XVZ13DE Handlebar Cable | Part Shark

Let us know what you find.

Good Luck.

Make sure you have the throttle cable run in the right spot. As the cable enters the carb area it needs to pass a shaft with a nylon spacer on it. The cable goes on the inside of the shaft so that it does not ride on the spacer.

The other issue I can think of is carb sync. You might want to check the sync. If one carb is out there is a problem.

Are you talking about the small nylon roller that is on the shaft? On every Venture I have seen, the cable is routed on the underside of the roller from the cable housing to the connection point and is in constant contact with the roller. Maybe I am misunderstanding, as I am not familiar with the nylon spacer you are talking about. :confused24:

From the cable housing to the attaching point at the carb the cable should not contact anything. You shouldn't have any issue with the return cable, it's well out of the way but it should also run freely. It's the 'pull' cable that often gets routed over the nylon spacer (it's a spacer, not a roller). Also check to make sure that the bracket that supports the end of the cable sheath is held together properly. Often times the round parts where the cable sits in gets loose from the bracket itself, and if those two aren't solid it will also give you throttle problems.

Well first of all thanks for the help. My bike is fixed. Found the pilot jets about 1/2 stopped up also needed two throttle cables but the biggest thing I took it to a shop in Petersburg to get the work done and he recleaned the carbs repair the choke cable and did a great job when he sync the carbs. Bike now runs great Idle is right where it needs to be and most of all it comes back to idle like it should. If you have a problem in WV and you are close to Petersburg WV Tri County Yamaha is a really good shop. 304-257-4420 They do a great job $65 labor rate. Again thanks for all your all's help.

Sea-Foam would have cured it at about 9 bucks. Not able to type much now but keep them clean. If you haven't done the Sea -Foam now is a good time. Give it a full can to less than 1/2 tank, run it enough to make sure it is in carbs good and leave it in for a day or 2 or at least overnight. Then run hard til you have to fill up Sea- Foam is costly but well worth it. I use a lot of Marvel Mystery Oil to keep them clean anymore since Sea-Foam has gone out of sight.

I have used sea foam in the past and will again but I am now using non ethanol gas which was partly the cause my problem. Thanks for the help. I can get regular gas where I live but will have to use ethanol gas when on a trip.
