Danaman Posted March 17, 2015 #1 Posted March 17, 2015 My wife has recently been prescribed home oxygen. She has a oxygen machine in the house. I understand you can buy a portable oxygen concentrator to use when you are in the car or out and about. I don't know a lot about them and when I look on eBay they range anywhere from approx. $300 to $3000. Does anyone have any experience with these machines and recommend one at a reasonable cost. The cheaper ones appear to be made in China, do I want to stay away from these or are a lot of them made in China. I am also thinking about where I can get it serviced. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think it would be easier to use the portable machine rather the lugging oxygen tanks around. Thanks Dana
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted March 17, 2015 #2 Posted March 17, 2015 My guess for who and where would be 1. Canadian Red Cross, I know they can supply many mobility assisting medical devises. 2. Would have to be Air Liquide, they are Canada wide and are able to supply compressed gasses and equipment. PS. I will be in Winnipeg 3rd week of May for my sons Convocation.
Danaman Posted March 18, 2015 Author #3 Posted March 18, 2015 I find it hard to believe that with the number of people on this site no one has experience with these machines? kevin thanks for your reply.
Flyinfool Posted March 18, 2015 #4 Posted March 18, 2015 Just doing a quick Google search there are a lot of portable oxygen concentrators available. There are a number of places that rent them, this would at least give you the opportunity to play with a few before you plunk down a pile of cash to buy one. Sorry I can't actually recommend one, I'm not quite bad enough yet to need one. Did you ask your doc for recommendations?
vicco27 Posted March 19, 2015 #5 Posted March 19, 2015 I've used a portable when traveling for a couple of years. I can charge it in the car or on the trike. I talked to the place that provides my home O2 concentrator about the various ones available and decided on an AirSep. Can't tell you the actual cost because it's covered by my insurance the same as my home concentrator.
Huggy Posted March 20, 2015 #6 Posted March 20, 2015 Do you have a heath insurance plan from work?? Also check your provincial health coverage. One of them should cover it.
