Big Auggie Posted March 16, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 16, 2015 While on our annual Florida bike run this past February my '89 Venture's low brake fluid light came on as soon as I set out on our trip. I checked the front/back brake fluids and clutch reservoir level and all were fine. Eventually the light turned off, but my cruise control no longer worked. Probably not a coincedence I'm guessing. Suggestions?

suds Posted March 19, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 19, 2015 Maybe a more experienced person can chime in here but I thought I read somewhere that the float in the rear master cylinder can get caught up somehow and make the sensor read a low fluid reading. I think the fix was to rebuild it but I'm not sure where that thread is to verify. I'll keep looking because this is what I experienced at the end of the last season. The low fluid warning would come and go intermittently for me, is that what you experienced or did the warning light come on and stay on?
MasterGuns Posted March 19, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 19, 2015 When the rear brake fluid float starts sticking causing the warning light to come and go is the first sign the fluid is getting really bad. Time to change the brake fluid as well as a good clean out of the reservoir.
Big Auggie Posted March 19, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted March 19, 2015 Start Checking Fuses. I don't believe the cruise's green light would be on if it was a fuse issue, but I did check them and they were OK.

Big Auggie Posted March 20, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted March 20, 2015 When the rear brake fluid float starts sticking causing the warning light to come and go is the first sign the fluid is getting really bad. Time to change the brake fluid as well as a good clean out of the reservoir. I changed fluids in the brake system last fall, (I didn't clean out the reservoir though). The warning light went off after the first 100 miles of the 2000 we rode in Florida. However I still do not have cruise control.
