XV1100SE Posted March 10, 2015 #1 Posted March 10, 2015 Got the battery side covers back a while ago and the plastic piece that goes in front of the battery box a week ago.... here are the pics. The side covers cost me $200 to have chromed the traditional way. I could have gotten them thru DiamondR but with shipping and the exchange rate it would have cost about the same. Anyone considering getting the chrome side covers from DiamondR should do it soon because when I asked in January they only had a few and weren't going to do any more. The plastic piece that goes in front of the battery box and is the piece between the battery side covers cost me $75 to have done. Turned out great ! I know most of it won't be seen under the seat and behind the engine but ties the two side covers together nicely. Have yet to put them on the bike but wanted to share the results.
Bert2006 Posted March 10, 2015 #2 Posted March 10, 2015 Looks good, where did you get them done and how long did it take?
slowrollwv Posted March 10, 2015 #5 Posted March 10, 2015 I have the chrome side covers also but did not get the center part done as it is hard to see let alone keep clean.
XV1100SE Posted March 10, 2015 Author #7 Posted March 10, 2015 I got the side covers done in Cambridge Ontario at a plating shop Cambridge Custom Chrome Home - Cambridge Custom Chrome. The plastic piece... EZ Chrome in Otterville, Ontario. http://www.ezchromesolutions.com/ On the plastic, there is a "silver" base coat and a lightly blue tinted topcoat that gives it the chrome look. Another option I looked at for the plastic is a product called "Super Chrome" but there aren't any shops close that do it. If you do a search for "Super Chrome"....you can get the basecoat and topcoat in a kit and do it yourself - but you'd want a good sprayer. :: SuperChrome® :: Best Chrome Paint Solution
XV1100SE Posted March 10, 2015 Author #8 Posted March 10, 2015 I have the chrome side covers also but did not get the center part done as it is hard to see let alone keep clean. To me there was a fair bit of black showing and chroming the plastic ties the two chromed side covers together.
stickhandle2 Posted March 11, 2015 #9 Posted March 11, 2015 That looks great Don, I have thought of getting the same thing done many times, never thought of taking it somewhere to get chromed. Thanks for sharing. Mike.
XV1100SE Posted March 11, 2015 Author #10 Posted March 11, 2015 I wanted the plastic to be properly chromed and not just from a rattle can. This way it will last. I'll post pics with them on the bike in the next day or two.
ReinyRooster Posted March 11, 2015 #11 Posted March 11, 2015 Don....me like!! Where was it you said that you park your bike.....at night.....in the dark.....where nobody can see....?????LOL!!
ReinyRooster Posted March 17, 2015 #12 Posted March 17, 2015 .....so I can "borrow" those parts......LOL!
XV1100SE Posted March 17, 2015 Author #13 Posted March 17, 2015 They still aren't on the bike yet... just haven't had the time
XV1100SE Posted March 21, 2015 Author #15 Posted March 21, 2015 Not the best lighting but these are pics of the chrome side covers and the panel in front of the battery box.
thecount Posted March 22, 2015 #17 Posted March 22, 2015 thanks Don for the link. I think I might get the BUB tips done on mine, or have them done in black for the tips since they are flaking. Steve
stickhandle2 Posted March 22, 2015 #18 Posted March 22, 2015 They look great on your bike.....real sharp, nice job on those
