videoarizona Posted March 10, 2015 #1 Posted March 10, 2015 I don't mind having a leakie or any other issue on the scoot. But this takes the cake. Look closely at the bottom clamp on the large hose to the left coming into the thermostat...the P.O. or some worker bee at a shop put the clamp on backwards. I'm not taking the motor out to replace the hose!!! Also notice my by-pass valve position. Interesting! So...which way do I turn it to get it right? Er....or left? Or?....
Flyinfool Posted March 10, 2015 #2 Posted March 10, 2015 You don't have to pull the motor, just the one exhaust pipe. OR, just cut the clamp band and use a new clamp.

It may be possible to get a wrench or pliers on the hex head of the hose clamp screw? Or a Dremel may access the clamp to cut it off? Finally, unbolt the exhaust header and move it out of the way? As for the coolant drain valve position: the OFF should point to a mark on the valve housing at about the two o'clock position when in normal operation. If draining the cooling system, the ON should be at the two o'clock position. You may turn the drain valve in either direction to position it correctly. There is no "stop".
Condor Posted March 10, 2015 #4 Posted March 10, 2015 Get a dremel and cut the clamp..... They're cheap, and a new one will make you feel better...
videoarizona Posted March 10, 2015 Author #5 Posted March 10, 2015 Thanks.....I'm just concerned why my valve is in the position it's in? Weird. In the middle....well, Guess I'll try turning it and see what happens. And the hose clamp...yep...cut the darn thing off. Replace the hose as well. This is the hose that can be matched close enough at an auto parts store, right? Thanks again.....
Venturous Randy Posted March 10, 2015 #6 Posted March 10, 2015 How has the temp gage read as you are riding? It should be a lot more consistent now, unless the thermostat is stuck as it has been in the bypass position, almost. Randy
videoarizona Posted March 10, 2015 Author #7 Posted March 10, 2015 Temp gauge has been reading fine. Takes a while to warm up, which now I understand, since the valve was closer to the by-pass position than the normal position . I just turned the valve to the proper position...moved easily... and am going to warm the bike up and watch the whole system. Wondering if it was on by-pass due to a warped thermostat cover or other issue. If no other problems pop up...I'll cut the hose clamp off and replace the hose...it's getting pretty soft. Ordered the bypass valve kit...and will do all that when it comes in.
videoarizona Posted March 10, 2015 Author #8 Posted March 10, 2015 Almost 7 hours....a few drips from by-pass valve once I started the bike....then nothing. No leak yet by the hose clamp. Guess I'll check again later tonight..
