dna9656 Posted March 9, 2015 #1 Posted March 9, 2015 As some of you know my '84 VR is on the lift for a rear wheel bearing transplant. So I found oil on the lift deck. I think one is from the cylinder COVER, Cap (the striped rectangle on the side of the cylinders); from the right front cylinder; does anyone have any ideas on the other?
Marcarl Posted March 10, 2015 #2 Posted March 10, 2015 Number of things tend to leak. Looks like the one in the back is fluid, not oil,,, but I can be wrong. If it's fluid it could be coming from the overflow tubes, looking at the location. The black spot could be, valve cover gasket, or one of the engine covers is leaking. Leaks are also common from the middle gear cover (bottom bolt missing a sealing washer), left side of bike, and where the stator wires come out of the stator cover.
dna9656 Posted March 10, 2015 Author #3 Posted March 10, 2015 Funny you should mention that black spot. That black spot actualy turns clear, the spot under the exhaust is carbon and water from the washing it got yesterday! the spots appear to change color in each picture. they are from opposite sides of the bike! Isn't that wild?! [/img]

<img src=[/img]
bongobobny Posted March 10, 2015 #4 Posted March 10, 2015 It's hard to tell for sure from the picture, but it almost looks like you have too much oil in the engine. The oil level should be only halfway up the sight glass. Any more and the extra oil will be forced out as blow by...
Venturous Randy Posted March 10, 2015 #5 Posted March 10, 2015 It's hard to tell for sure from the picture, but it almost looks like you have too much oil in the engine. The oil level should be only halfway up the sight glass with the bike on the center stand. Any more and the extra oil will be forced out as blow by... Good point Bob, just added a note. Randy
dna9656 Posted March 11, 2015 Author #6 Posted March 11, 2015 Oil level is correct, 1/2 up the site glass.
