COVER, cap P/N 26H-15417-01-00

Concerning the COVER, Cap P/N 26H-15417-01-00 This is the striped rectangle on the side of each cylinder that appears to be leaking oil...I notice there's no gasket in the parts catalog ('84 M/N XVZ12DKC2) so where would one get a gasket or do I make one?

The "cover, cap" hides and holds a rubber plug into the cooling jacket surrounding the cylinder. The leak will be coolant, not oil. The "cover, cap" is not just cosmetic. Without the "cover, cap", the cooling system when heated and pressurized, will blow the rubber plug (#12 on the 'fiche, PN. 90338-11152-00 PLUG,SPEC'L SHAPE) out and you will lose the coolant. It is not uncommon for the aged rubber plug to shrink and harden with the resultant coolant leak. Some have found that an appropriate sized spacer (a dime) placed between the "cover, cap" and the rubber plug will eliminate the leak...for awhile.

Part #9 seems to be a "stay" that holds in freezeplug #12 . I don't know anything about 1st Gens, but on 2nd Gens the fake cyl covers do the same thing as your part #9 .
