Brenner Posted March 4, 2015 #1 Posted March 4, 2015 Any one here gonna try to make the Port Dover Friday 13 run? I know it might be a tad cold but anyone honestly considering it? If the roads are clear I think I am going to attempt it.
Marcarl Posted March 5, 2015 #2 Posted March 5, 2015 Been there, done that,,,, too many people and not my kind of a crowd. Now I think in March it maybe somewhat quieter, and less conjested,, but pilgrimages is not my thing anyways.
ReinyRooster Posted March 5, 2015 #3 Posted March 5, 2015 Ya...what he said.....been here....got the t-shirt......I agree a March date will probably be less crowded then a warm summer day but been there...done that applies. Not much there to make it worth the trip anymore.
Brenner Posted March 6, 2015 Author #4 Posted March 6, 2015 I have never been on the 13th so I gotta make the trip at least once. Although I do make the trip on quite often on regular days so for me it will be the event that is new.
stickhandle2 Posted March 6, 2015 #5 Posted March 6, 2015 I would be going if the bike was on the road and the roads were ok to drive on, it is not looking like I will get it out of its warm place quite yet. We usually go, fun to see all the different folks that are there. Mike
saddlebum Posted March 6, 2015 #6 Posted March 6, 2015 Like Marcarl and Rieny been there a few times. But if you've never been, you got to go at least once for sure. Sadly even though there are 3 this year none are during the warmer months.
Brenner Posted March 6, 2015 Author #7 Posted March 6, 2015 Yup March then November than the next is May 2016. Again I have never been, gonna get the t-shirt if I go and honestly that will probably be it. Was gonna go in 2014 but I ended up installing paving stones in my driveway as it was the only day I had another person to help.
The Tooch Posted March 7, 2015 #8 Posted March 7, 2015 Yes. It was on my bucket list, so one year a bunch of the guys form work said they were going and I decided it was time to go and tagged along. Well it was nuts! We had no idea it was the 50th and it was packed. We had fun spent most of the day walking around taking in all the bikes just parked there. The state of dress of some of the young ladies and maybe not so young, and maybe not so lady like, was rather interesting! When I got back to my bike somebody had opened my trunk and left it open. They had looked through everything, tossing the contents but didn't take anything. So as other's have said been there done that. It was nice to go there last summer with MarCarl and the gang just for a ride and not on the 13th just to see the place when it wasn't so crazy. Oh and to have a hotdog.
saddlebum Posted March 7, 2015 #9 Posted March 7, 2015 True enough, Riding the shoreline from Port Maitland to Port Dover is a great ride at any time, not just Fri the 13th.
Brenner Posted March 7, 2015 Author #10 Posted March 7, 2015 When I run that way I ride from Port Colborne along the shore through low banks and stromness to Dunnville over the bridge and run the shore where I can and come in the back side of Port Dover. Very nice, not very much traffic, and has always been a pleasure so for for me and those I have ridden with so far.
sleepy2 Posted March 8, 2015 #11 Posted March 8, 2015 Unlike some I have only missed 1 Friday the 13th since 2002. NOT that I have too or like big crowds but is something to do. Usually the cold ones not very many show up--like this year I heard only around 4 or 5 showed up. One was from this area on a dressed Harley. When I was there I only seen a Scooter and he was in Timmie's having coffee! I went in my truck because too much snow on the streets around our house. Probably won't take bike this Friday for same reasons BUT you never know!! I work Midnights and usually go first thing in morning(usually leave around 8 or 9am ) so I can look around if bikes show up and get a shirt or two then get home to sleep for work later. If this works for you maybe we could meet for coffee. If I go by truck I drive White + rust Mazda 4x4 with topper.
Brenner Posted March 8, 2015 Author #12 Posted March 8, 2015 sleepy2 if you are up to it send me a PM and some contact info and we can make arrangements. Unless the roads are very clear I most likely will take my cage also. Riding along the lake is much cooler than inland roads and I would rather not wreck on my way there. But .... if ti is really good weather I might try with my virago as it is the only bike I have insured right now. I look forward to hearing from you.
Huggy Posted March 8, 2015 #13 Posted March 8, 2015 Friday the 13th in snow would most likely make for a good meet an greet. Just saying.
Brenner Posted March 11, 2015 Author #14 Posted March 11, 2015 Got my little steed out today and took a short ride, a little brrr.. I am not sure as of yet if I will try to ride on Friday but I am still aiming on trying to make an appearance. Anyone know they are going for sure? It would be nice to meet up even if we get there in a cage.
Brenner Posted March 12, 2015 Author #17 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) Tonight I will decide and post what my plans are for tomorrow. As of right now I got my garage clear of a customers repair and I am getting ready to lay some color on my venture project. I figure it will keep me busy for a few hours and then I will need to decide what looks right on these panels then I can clear my head for tomorrows agenda. Bike or no bike? Riding along a lake that is still frozen makes for some frigid riding. If I end up using my cage do it make me less of a serious rider? Edited March 12, 2015 by Brenner spelling
sleepy2 Posted March 12, 2015 #18 Posted March 12, 2015 Took bike out for ride then came home and cleaned it up. WAY too many nut-jobs out still! Still thinking of ridding tomorrow. Will probable leave around 9 or so. If weather changes will truck it.
Brenner Posted March 12, 2015 Author #19 Posted March 12, 2015 Nut jobs will always be out on the road, unfortunately we cannot easily resolve that. After riding an hour today I am considering driving tomorrow as I was inland away from the lake and still found it a bit to cold and don't want to push my luck as I am roughly 2 hours from dover. I will look for you near the Timmies and will have my red dodge magnum it will be hard to miss as I am the only one I know of who has a black push bar mounted to the front. Those that know me look for the bar as it is easier to see than my personalized plates.
sleepy2 Posted March 13, 2015 #20 Posted March 13, 2015 Just got back home from Dover around 2pm. Lots of bikes ridding in and also a few trailer queens being taken out of trailers on side streets!Looked for Brenner but no luck. sat on bike in Timmies for quite a while but no show! Went for walk around then bought T-shirts and headed home around 12:20.
Brenner Posted March 14, 2015 Author #21 Posted March 14, 2015 I owe an apology for my no show, as I got a phone call at 9AM with a "family crisis" and the 13th has not been good to me. I sincerely apologize as it was my intent to show but I was not able to free myself till around 3:30 pm and I was stressed to the point of almost shaking and by then I had decided it was too late and unwise for me to ride in that condition. Sleepy2 I promise I will make this up to you one way or the other as I very seldom if never break my word buy honestly I had to deal with a family member and the stress that came with it. I like to ride to reduce stress and dramatic problems unfortunately you try to distance yourself and they sometimes still find you. I only hope this will not be held against me but I do admit my no show. Sorry as I really wanted to go and I am still trying to unwind from todays events that I honestly had no control of.
Wizard765 Posted March 14, 2015 #22 Posted March 14, 2015 So the Navigator and I dropped in on Dover for awhile in the afternoon with another couple. Took a cage but still had a good time. There were way more bikes than I expected to see. Got a T shirt and had dinner at the Erie Beach. Seen one RSVM that I didn't recognize. All in all a good day for us.. BUT there was an accident just north of Hagersville where someone in a cage turned into a bike heading to Dover. Guy was airlifted to Hospital and at the moment is in critical condition but still hanging on.. Hate to see these.. Phil we didn't get there till around 2:00. Didn't see you or your scoot..
sleepy2 Posted March 14, 2015 #23 Posted March 14, 2015 No problem Brenner! I had a phone call as I was getting ready to leave from one of my nieces that her older(53)sister had passed away that morning. Talked to her for 1/2 hour then she told me to get going to Dover as she knew I would be going and didn't want me to hear it on Facebook. Wizard765--sorry couldn't stay as I had to go and get some sleep before work. Left around 1pm Now am getting ready to drive to London to give my oldest boy & friends to replace(upgrade) his front and rear axils on his Jeep Cherrokee.
