camos Posted February 28, 2015 #1 Posted February 28, 2015 I'm looking into getting a Motorola Moto E prepaid phone from Walmart.com but would like to unlock the SIM so I won't be limited to one provider. Anyone on here know how to go about doing that?
Mover Posted February 28, 2015 #2 Posted February 28, 2015 Try a search on YouTube for howtos on unlocking Moto E. To obtain a unlock code I've used this company Cellunlocker.net - #1 Unlock Codes for Network Cell Phone Unlocking once before. I'm not sure about the 'prepaid' part but an alternative is to buy an unlocked phone and the Moto E is available at Staples.
camos Posted March 1, 2015 Author #3 Posted March 1, 2015 Everyone in Canada seems to charge the same amount for the Moto E which is about $179. In the USA, Walmart online has the Moto E pre-paid using Cricket (now owned by AT&T) for $50. If the phone can be unlocked for a reasonable amount then it would be usable in the States and Canada just by changing the SIM. I'm not sure it will be worth all the trouble but seemed that it might be. Thanks for the Canadian link. Too bad non of the unlock sites say upfront what they charge. It's necessary to jump through a bunch of hoops to find out that they are all about the same.
djh3 Posted March 1, 2015 #4 Posted March 1, 2015 The just passed some kinf of law dealing with unlocking your phone when your contract is up if you bought it under a contact. But a pay as you go deal I would think falls under the "paid up " contract. Surley ther is some teenage hacker that can do it near by.
camos Posted March 2, 2015 Author #5 Posted March 2, 2015 Don't know any hackers, teenage or otherwise. I was hoping I might find one on here.
