ReinyRooster Posted February 23, 2015 #1 Posted February 23, 2015 Well we were supposed to fly out today for a week of sunshine and Tequila in Mexico. Saturday evening we were out at a function and my dear wife fainted while walking back from the dance floor. Got taken to emerg. and they determined that the electrical impulses that are supposed to go from the top of the heart to the bottom are not firing properly. It was not a stroke or a heart attack. So now she sits in the hospital waiting for more tests. The good thing is that this happened here at home, instead of on the plane or in Mexico. This is probably a good wake-up call for us to change our lifestyle and eating habits as we are both carrying around extra pounds. Luckily we had cancellation insurance. Then to make sure my life doesn't get too boring, my two sisters spent much of this past weekend with our father in emerg. at the other local hospital.....he's 89 and pretty shaky....he fell on Saturday in his room and banged one of his two replacement knees to the point where you couldn't touch the knee without him screaming in pain, and he has a bad toe that was an ugly colour with some sort of infection running from the toe up into his foot. Of course at that age he also has very poor circulation, so that doesn't help. There are no beds at that hospital for him so they are keeping him in a cubicle in emerg....probably most of the week from what they tell us....needless to say he is not a happy camper. At least the knee is O.K. and the meds that they have him on are improving the toe and infection. Well I'm off to more visiting at a hospital!! Fun week of vacation!!

ReinyRooster Posted February 23, 2015 Author #6 Posted February 23, 2015 Thanks everyone....just back from the hospital and the meds they gave my father are working .... the infection is cleared up significantly.....they figure he will be in for another 3-4 days.....he's not happy about that but all in all, things are getting better. Still waiting for my wife to get some tests done so until that happens, nobody knows what they will do next. Patience is a virtue I guess.

Flyinfool Posted February 24, 2015 #9 Posted February 24, 2015 WOW, hate to hear all of this. What you describe of your wife's heart sounds like the same thing I am going thru right now. LOTS of drugs and my heart is back pretty much to normal. Point is, it can be fixed.
ReinyRooster Posted February 25, 2015 Author #10 Posted February 25, 2015 Well today she is going bionic! In about 2 hours they are going to implant some sort of a chip into my wife that will monitor her heart's electrical impulses. Once they have that info, they will have a better idea as to what to do. The cardiologists are all indicating that simply slapping in a pacemaker like they used to do is not necessarily the right thing to do. She wont be able to drive for that two weeks while she has the chip in but luckily we only work about two blocks apart, so she can change her hours to match mine and I can be her chauffeur for two weeks. Curious to see what they say after the end of that two week period.
