Some of you have reported that when you insert a smilie, it also inserts the code unless you delete that code first. I'm trying to figure out what might be causing that so if this is something that is happening to you, please tell me how you are inserting smilies, what browser you are using and etc.

This event is intermittent. I will finish my comment and will select standard and then go back and click on the location I want it, like the end of the sentence and then click on selected smilie. Most of the time just the smilie will transfer, but occasionally the code will too. When that happens, I just highlite and delete the code. To my knowledge, I am not doing anything different from one time to another, so, that probably does not help you. :confused24:

I am using Firefox.

Attached is screen capture of an earlier reply to a thread.

This time I inserted same smile and it worked as it should, no html code.

Don,

I was afraid to say anything, but since you asked.... The results I am getting still may have something to do with my computer settings for all I know..

Anyway, lets say I type a post or a reply, even this one that you are presently reading now.. After I type it, I highlight it, and change the font to Comic Sans MS. When I do this I get the following at the beginning of my post and at the end of my post I get .

If I add a smile like now - :biker: I can only see the words; biker.. I do not see the avatar of the smiley biker.

However, "after" I click the post quick reply tab, then is when I can see the smiley biker avatar, and the words at the beginning and end of my post (cosmic sans MS & /FONT) are no longer seen.

Wonder if I could just do a post and then do a screen print of my post so that you can actually see what I am talking about ...Here goes...and here is the smiley biker avatar :biker:

OK, I hope you can view this word document to see what I mean..

What I see when I post.docx

I have Firefox 35.0.1 running on Win XP.

I usually just start typing in the quick reply box, when I click on a Smiley the smiley appears in real time.:rasberry:

I wonder if some people might not have the full WYSIWYG editor selected.

Time to test that theory...........

This time I changed my settings to Basic text editor.:moon:

Now as I am typing this the smiley that I used in the line above showed up as ": moon :" but with no spaces in it.

I am assuming that once I post it will convert the the moon smiley to a real smiley.

And it did convert the smiley text to a real smiley at posting.

Now I am set up with the Standard Editor. :duck:

I still get the text version of the : duck: smiley that I am sure will post as the correct graphic.

as to not being able to have more than 3 smileys in a row. That one is easy, there is a limit to how many consecutive characters you can have with out a space. if your string of smileys exceeds that number the system breaks the string of characters by adding in a space. the smiley that gets the space added is no longer correctly formatted so it shows up as text in the final post.

I think this is so that no one uses any really big words to cornfuse us.:rasberry:

and it did.

Test of smilie :p

:o:D;)

Change font here ---> insert smilie here --->

Type text first and select | change font, then insert smilie

So it appears that if you change the font before typing text, then insert smilie, you get the ""
