Freebird Posted February 18, 2015 #1 Posted February 18, 2015 Some of you have reported that when you insert a smilie, it also inserts the code unless you delete that code first. I'm trying to figure out what might be causing that so if this is something that is happening to you, please tell me how you are inserting smilies, what browser you are using and etc.
K-Rider Posted February 18, 2015 #2 Posted February 18, 2015 When I select a smile it puts in a code but when it is posted the smile is there. I thought that's how it worked.
Venturous Randy Posted February 18, 2015 #3 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) This event is intermittent. I will finish my comment and will select standard and then go back and click on the location I want it, like the end of the sentence and then click on selected smilie. Most of the time just the smilie will transfer, but occasionally the code will too. When that happens, I just highlite and delete the code. To my knowledge, I am not doing anything different from one time to another, so, that probably does not help you. I am using Firefox. Randy Edited February 18, 2015 by Venturous Randy
Freebird Posted February 18, 2015 Author #4 Posted February 18, 2015 I don't do it exactly that way. I just stop where I want the smiley to be and click on the smiley. I don't go back and forth.
dingy Posted February 18, 2015 #5 Posted February 18, 2015 Attached is screen capture of an earlier reply to a thread. This time I inserted same smile and it worked as it should, no html code. Firefox 35.0.1 Gary
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted February 18, 2015 #6 Posted February 18, 2015 Only thing I have ever notices is if you do not put a space between them you can only do like 3 then it does the code then starts smiles again for 3 and so on. No big thing
campfire12 Posted February 18, 2015 #7 Posted February 18, 2015 It allways shows the code but when posted the smile is there. Doesn't bother me, just the way it works.
Freebird Posted February 18, 2015 Author #8 Posted February 18, 2015 Gary, It looks like yours has something to do with a font change that you tried to make. That code has nothing to do with a smiley.
Eck Posted February 18, 2015 #9 Posted February 18, 2015 Don, I was afraid to say anything, but since you asked.... The results I am getting still may have something to do with my computer settings for all I know.. Anyway, lets say I type a post or a reply, even this one that you are presently reading now.. After I type it, I highlight it, and change the font to Comic Sans MS. When I do this I get the following at the beginning of my post and at the end of my post I get . If I add a smile like now - I can only see the words; biker.. I do not see the avatar of the smiley biker. However, "after" I click the post quick reply tab, then is when I can see the smiley biker avatar, and the words at the beginning and end of my post (cosmic sans MS & /FONT) are no longer seen.
Eck Posted February 18, 2015 #10 Posted February 18, 2015 Wonder if I could just do a post and then do a screen print of my post so that you can actually see what I am talking about ...Here goes...and here is the smiley biker avatar OK, I hope you can view this word document to see what I mean..What I see when I post.docx
Flyinfool Posted February 18, 2015 #11 Posted February 18, 2015 I have Firefox 35.0.1 running on Win XP. I usually just start typing in the quick reply box, when I click on a Smiley the smiley appears in real time. I wonder if some people might not have the full WYSIWYG editor selected. Time to test that theory...........
Freebird Posted February 18, 2015 Author #12 Posted February 18, 2015 This is a test Yes, it seems that if you change the font and then add a smilie, that is what causes the problem.
Flyinfool Posted February 18, 2015 #13 Posted February 18, 2015 This time I changed my settings to Basic text editor. Now as I am typing this the smiley that I used in the line above showed up as ": moon :" but with no spaces in it. I am assuming that once I post it will convert the the moon smiley to a real smiley.
Flyinfool Posted February 18, 2015 #14 Posted February 18, 2015 And it did convert the smiley text to a real smiley at posting. Now I am set up with the Standard Editor. I still get the text version of the : duck: smiley that I am sure will post as the correct graphic. as to not being able to have more than 3 smileys in a row. That one is easy, there is a limit to how many consecutive characters you can have with out a space. if your string of smileys exceeds that number the system breaks the string of characters by adding in a space. the smiley that gets the space added is no longer correctly formatted so it shows up as text in the final post. I think this is so that no one uses any really big words to cornfuse us. and it did.

SilvrT Posted February 18, 2015 #17 Posted February 18, 2015 Test of smilie :D;)   Change font here ---> insert smilie here ---> Type text first and select | change font, then insert smilie So it appears that if you change the font before typing text, then insert smilie, you get the ""
Zzyzx Posted February 19, 2015 #18 Posted February 19, 2015 What if you don't feel like adding a smiley face??? How bout a grumpy face or a get over it face, or get off by back you SOB face? Sorry got carried away for a second. :>) Used the key pad adding a : then a ) etc and have no idea which browser I am on, maybe Ya-hoo ?
Freebird Posted February 24, 2015 Author #19 Posted February 24, 2015 OK folks...this smilie issue should be resolved. and...it should work with smilies or grumpies.
