Guest baggerdan Posted March 25, 2008 #1 Posted March 25, 2008 Where can I get all of the parts to rebuild my front forks on my 90 VR? Ebay has been a bust.
BradT Posted March 25, 2008 #2 Posted March 25, 2008 I pulled the forks off and brought them to the Yamaha dealer (I think it was 150 bucks) for new seals, oil and labour to rebuild them. I did not think it was too bad, and I did not need to make the special tool to get the lower nut off. BRad
DevilDog Posted March 25, 2008 #3 Posted March 25, 2008 Check with Rick at Buckeye Performance. http://www.buckeyeperformance.com He doesn't have the rebuild kit listed on his site but he can get it. Just send him an email. Good prices and he makes sure you get everything that you will need for a rebuild. Also suggest you replace the stock springs with Progressives while you have the forks apart. It makes a huge difference in the ride. I believe there are instructions for a DIY rebuild in the Tech area. If not, let me know and I will send you a link/instructions.
cimmer Posted March 25, 2008 #4 Posted March 25, 2008 If you want to do it yourself, try some of the following places: http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com http://www.buckeyeperformance.com here you might need to email or call them to see about cost. There are other places online to get parts also, just find one you like. A lot of the places have the yamaha parts fiches online so you can see the parts and click on what you want to order. I hope this helps you out. Rick F.
derwood Posted March 25, 2008 #5 Posted March 25, 2008 If you have any kind of miles on it change the friggin bushings too.
Rocket Posted March 25, 2008 #6 Posted March 25, 2008 If you have any kind of miles on it change the friggin bushings too. Here is another source for parts, aside from Yamaha, I had to go there for my fork bushings as the bushing for the fork tube was not listed separately in the 83 Yamaha parts listings. http://www.racetech.com/evalving/english/Srchpr.asp?bikeid=497&manufacture=Yamaha&model=XVZ1300+Venture&year=87%2D91&TABLEINFO=street&langname=english If someone needs to replace the upper fork tubes, here is a good source for new ones, it was about $245 for a pair on my 83 Vs about $200. each from Yamaha http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/
GeorgeS Posted March 25, 2008 #7 Posted March 25, 2008 Deffinatly use NEW Parts. Seal Kits, and Replace Both Bushings on each Tube. They may not appear to need replaceing, But replace them. Also, if over 50K, replace the springs also. You won't regret the expense.
