ENG2242 Posted February 9, 2015 #1 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) I have removed the windshield several times and have either stripped our knocked the mounting nuts that would be attached on the back of the mounting bracket located at the top of the picture. I guess I need to replace this, if anyone knows the part number or any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks guys, David Edited February 10, 2015 by ENG2242 Picture
djh3 Posted February 9, 2015 #2 Posted February 9, 2015 Which bolts? The couple of end ones are sort of in nut plates you could probably fix. The center ones I'm not so sure.
ENG2242 Posted February 9, 2015 Author #3 Posted February 9, 2015 One end nut plate on the bracket is stripped and two of the other holes where the bolt would tighten the shield in just seem that I am twisting rubber and does not snug up. The two large center bolts I was referring to are the ones that hold the bracket to the bike.
eusa1 Posted February 9, 2015 #4 Posted February 9, 2015 2013 will have 5 year warranty, let the dealer replace it
XV1100SE Posted February 10, 2015 #5 Posted February 10, 2015 As for the 5 year warranty...when I got my bike the chrome strip in front of the windshield had a couple broken tabs. I bought my bike used (3 months old) and the dealer that did the safety on it pointed out the issue. I tried submitting it thru Yamaha but they denied the claim saying that it could have been user damaged and not a flaw in the bike. With your bracket, the dealer may say it is because it was over tightened by the owner. Don't be surprised if the claim is declined.
ENG2242 Posted February 10, 2015 Author #6 Posted February 10, 2015 I agree Don. honestly it is my fault. I just can't figure out what part # it is or looking at the diagram which part is the correct reference.
XV1100SE Posted February 11, 2015 #7 Posted February 11, 2015 Can you either post a closer picture that shows the issue or put an arrow on the picture you posted identifying the part? Parts diagram (cowling1) attached.
sldunker Posted February 11, 2015 #8 Posted February 11, 2015 I believe he is talking about number 7 on the diagram. The windshield screws to this as well as the top portion of the fairing.
XV1100SE Posted February 11, 2015 #9 Posted February 11, 2015 If it is #7, the end often breaks off the fairing. There is a fix for this if that is what it is.
djh3 Posted February 11, 2015 #10 Posted February 11, 2015 Yup I think 7-stay is the flat metal strip. From Bike bandit not available out of stock. Plus its like $130 bucks. #33 is the nut plate, but I do not know how it is attached. Have you tried running a tap thru and cleaning the threads up? Maybe, just maybe you can get lucky. I always start mine by hand before tightening them. And I start them all before tightening any of them. 4XY-28357-00-00 is part # for stay. Me I would see if I could clean the threads up, second shot would be to see about putting a nut plate in it or time zert or rivnut.
eusa1 Posted February 11, 2015 #11 Posted February 11, 2015 there one for 25 bucks free shipping from pinwal on e-bay #200640529891
