Hummingbird Posted February 6, 2015 #1 Posted February 6, 2015 as we used to. Late last summer (August) a friend on his '98' RSTD was on his way home and traveling one of our fine back roads here in Carroll County. Just as he went thru a slight curve, a groundhog decided to cross the road. Unfortunately the hog made it to the front wheel ( under it ) and sent the bike off into a grassy field to the right. Broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken other things, induced coma for 6 weeks, a tracheotomy (sp), numerous other things I've forgotten. Perhaps next month he'll be allowed to return home form the assisted living/rehab center. oh, I forgot - he's 79 years old, lives alone bike sustained a couple paint scratches
Yammer Dan Posted February 6, 2015 #2 Posted February 6, 2015 Ain't that a fact!! My body seemed to laugh at broken bones in my younger days. It don't seem to see the humor anymore.
BlueSky Posted February 6, 2015 #3 Posted February 6, 2015 Yeah, that's a fact. When I dropped the Concours (about 670lbs), I foolishly tried to prevent it from going over which only resulted in pinning my foot under the bike. I could not get the bike off my foot. I was in the Everglades National Park by myself in a parking lot on one of the side roads. Luckily for me there was one other car there and a guy from Germany helped get the bike off. I rode it back to my apt. I could walk ok so I didn't go the doctor. My job required me to sit at a computer most of the day. That combined with the injury and my age resulted in blood clots forming in my leg. So, 3 weeks later I went to a podiatrist who took an x-ray and found my broken 2nd metatarsel and diagnosed my swollen leg immediately. After an ultrasound, I was sent to the hospital where I stayed for a day and had to take blood thinners for 4 months. I did not need a cast, just a special shoe for a while. If had been younger, probably the clots would not have formed.
