Freebird Posted February 4, 2015 #7 Posted February 4, 2015 Yea, works for me. That is TERRIBLE. I'm glad I never had that problem on either of my '99s.

Flyinfool Posted February 4, 2015 #9 Posted February 4, 2015 Maybe its my cheap speakers but all I hear is normal engine and wind noises.
djh3 Posted February 4, 2015 #10 Posted February 4, 2015 Hmm I dont hear anything unusual. Other than gear drive noise.
Chaharly Posted February 4, 2015 Author #11 Posted February 4, 2015 Its recorded with a smart phone so quality is pretty low
Freebird Posted February 4, 2015 #12 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm surprised you guys can't here it. It is clear to me.
SilvrT Posted February 4, 2015 #13 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm surprised you guys can't here it. It is clear to me. same here and for a minute there, I thought I was riding my '06. It was even a tad louder when he throttled down a bit and dropped it into 4th. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears .... at that "certain" rpm ... which is quite often where a person is at ... and that "chirp" can really be annoying.
SilvrT Posted February 4, 2015 #14 Posted February 4, 2015 Maybe its my cheap speakers but all I hear is normal engine and wind noises. Hmm I dont hear anything unusual. Other than gear drive noise. If that is normal, then give me an AB-normal one
Wrench Posted February 5, 2015 #15 Posted February 5, 2015 My '99 had a little gear noise when I bought it back in 2012, I switched to 20W50 oil and it's all but gone now.
Zzyzx Posted February 5, 2015 #16 Posted February 5, 2015 I switch to 20W-50 before my coast-to-coast ride last year and it made a big difference with how my 99 RSV ran across the hot regions of Nevada and the salt flats area of Utah. Less noise, seemed to even run cooler. Got some of my 20W-50 M/C oil from Wally-Mart and tried it. Found no difference in how the bike performed over the next 4000 miles and it only cost $2.65 p/QT. I-B-CHEAP...sometimes.
bongobobny Posted February 5, 2015 #17 Posted February 5, 2015 Ehhh, the clutch sings because it's happy! I actually kind of like the George Jetson sound...
Chaharly Posted February 5, 2015 Author #18 Posted February 5, 2015 Ehhh, the clutch sings because it's happy! I actually kind of like the George Jetson sound... It's cool for the first hundred miles...
cowpuc Posted February 5, 2015 #20 Posted February 5, 2015 WOW Cha, I definitely can hear what your talking about! That higher pitched chirping is nothing that I have ever heard on any of my 83/84's!! Totally a different thing.. I have been using cheap 20-50w in the hot regions for years, like the other guys have mentioned, and all my Ventures have done just fine with it.. I am not sure but I think this is also what the early models suggested in their manuals.. I used it cause in real hot tempts it seemed like the trannys got unusually notchy and,, it always seemed like my motors breathed out a little more oil if running high speeds across open deserts.. If I had that noise happening, the very first thing I would try would be the 20-50 route.. Hey,, any of you guys ever try the Lucas additive? I gotta friend that swears by the stuff in his Harley,, says he can actually feel the engine turning easier and quieter.. Not sure what it would do with wet clutches but,, never hurts to bring up the subject.. Ya Cha,, thats an annoying little chirper aint it... THANKS for taking the time to video it and posting it up,, never knew the "chirp" was any different than the "whine' I have learned to love..
MikeWa Posted February 5, 2015 #21 Posted February 5, 2015 I hear it. But it is not nearly as bad as my 08 was with Ams Oil in it. It would literally drive you off the bike. Fortunately for me changing the oil resolved the issue. Mike
SilvrT Posted February 5, 2015 #22 Posted February 5, 2015 Hey,, any of you guys ever try the Lucas additive? . I've heard (or was it 'read') that the Lucas product isn't so good to use in our bikes BUT ... MotorKote IS ... check it out. I've used it in my '06 RSMV, my '03 Wing, and now in my '13 VIC. (maybe that's why it's so smooth )
