Venturous Randy Posted January 28, 2015 #1 Posted January 28, 2015 Well, my buddy with a 98 RSTD took a ride Sunday with his girlfriend and came upon a stopped car in the road and hit his rear brake too hard and it locked up. He hit the car and went down. He got a good bruise on his thigh and his girlfriend did not get hurt. They were lucky. On the bike, it bent the right driving light, the headlight ring and really messed up his front fender. I am trying to help him get some parts together and was wondering about the differences on an RSTD and a RSVenture front fender. It does not appear to have damaged his forks and he was able to ride it home after bending the fender away from the tire and it appeared to track straight. Any info you can send this way is appreciated. Randy
M61A1MECH Posted January 28, 2015 #2 Posted January 28, 2015 Front fenders from 96 to 13 should al be the same. There is a gut over on Delphi that just found a brand new one he had stashed and forgot about. here is a link, he did have someone asking about it. Royal Star front fender [royalstar 10093.1]
cowpuc Posted January 28, 2015 #3 Posted January 28, 2015 Wow Rand, sorry to read this BUT, THANKFULLY they are both ok!! Thanks for being there for them to help in the bike repair.. If I see or hear of any parts that may help I will let you know!!
Eck Posted January 29, 2015 #4 Posted January 29, 2015 Glad your friends are both OK bud!! Good on you for helping him out in getting his ride fixed back up too!! Thumbs up to ya!
Venturous Randy Posted January 29, 2015 Author #5 Posted January 29, 2015 We got him a front fender from Pinwall from an 05 RSV for about $90 with free shipping. We are still looking for some light parts. Thanks for the help and encouragement. One thing that this has done for me is on my 83, I am upgrading the forks and rotors to MKII, along with R6 calipers and SS brake lines and I was on the fence about delinking. Given I have put about 150,000 miles on this bike, I have decided I will stay with the linked brake system. It has worked well for me and have never had a problem with locking up the rear wheel, as many have done on 2nd gens and RSTD's. Randy
pofarm Posted January 29, 2015 #6 Posted January 29, 2015 Glad everyone is ok! The headlight ring is the same from 96 to 2001 and also from 01-10 V Star, according to boats.net. 4NK-84315-00-00 YAMAHA RIM,HEADLIGHT The headlight bucket, if needed is the same from 96-01. 4NK-84330-00-00 YAMAHA BODY ASSY Here is a good deal on a RIGHT PASSING LIGHT
vzuden Posted January 29, 2015 #7 Posted January 29, 2015 I have a used turn signal/pass lamp bar if you need one. Came off a 2007 RSTD and I am not sure if it will fit a '98
MikeWa Posted January 30, 2015 #8 Posted January 30, 2015 Sorry to hear about the crash but glad everyone came through ok. Mike
Mikealiasmike Posted February 6, 2015 #9 Posted February 6, 2015 I have the light bar and headlight bucket for a 2005. Just need to find them but there around here somewhere. He can PM me if he'd like
Venturous Randy Posted February 6, 2015 Author #10 Posted February 6, 2015 We now have the fender and the passing light. He still needs a headlight bucket with a trim ring, or at least a trim ring. Does your light still have the trim ring? If you do, let me know what you need for it. Thanks for your help. Randy

I've thought long and hard about whether or not Im gonna give anyone a ride on the back after my little spill... If I'm to get hurt that's one thing but Id feel really bad about someone on the back getting hurt. Glad they're both ok and I hope she wants to keep riding!
eagleeye Posted February 6, 2015 #12 Posted February 6, 2015 Your friend should check out Michigan Motorcycle Salvage. They have a website. I think it's just their name. I've gotten stuff from them before.
