Hi Don, a very interesting thread. I have been following you around the web since 1999 and I don't think I have ever heard you intentionally be nasty or mean to any person or brand either here or on the other website. Anytime that I am aware of that there have been high emotions or tensions I believe you have taken them offline and dealt with them personally. I don't know what the former member's problems were but the fact that you would reach out to him and that you would open yourself up by asking the general membership if there is a problem here speaks volumes. So unless specific incidences can be pointed to don't worry about general disagreements that have little or no basis in fact. Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this site and into your friendship to all of us for all these years.

So is this an admission that a Harley can only out run a Venture if it's not running??? :whistling: :rotf: :witch_brew: :stickpoke:

Only on VR could a guy as nice as Don come on here with an open discussion about someone leaving cause they thought he was defending his Harley to much and ultimately end up getting picked on about his Harley, thereby proving that he isnt the one who is doing the picking on... This place is the greatest comedy show on earth:icon_lurker::stirthepot::rotf::rotf:

What the heck,, may as well go all out here,, and really :witch_brew:,,, something just dawned on me here you guys,, I wonder if allllllllll this stuff isnt tied somehow to Fly-intheointment-Fool's White Washings capability and all of us are suffering from CABIN FEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitarist 2:

It hasn't stopped snowing here all day. I should be in Pittsburg now but am still sitting at home. I was in Pittsburg last week for two days and had to cut the trip short due to a back problem. I've never had back trouble but something is knocking me on my butt. I don't know if it's actually my back or a kidney problem. Went to the doctor last Wednesday when I got home and got a shot and some really good pills. Thought I was better yesterday but it was bad again this morning. Went for an ultrasound of my kidneys earlier today and should know more tomorrow. Unless I'm completely bedridden or snowed in though, I have to get to Pittsburg tomorrow. Would love to get out on the bike but Rick Butler has my seat right now anyway.

:cool10::rotf::rotf::rotf::crackup::crackup::scratchchin::scratchchin::scratchchin::scratchchin:,, or,,, :scratchchin::scratchchin::scratchchin: maybe your getting smarter from the pills the doc gave ya..

Let me explain,, hopefully one of smarty pants Mods dont move this thread over into the joke section if I do though..

A guy goes to his doctor, complaining that he doesnt feel as smart as other people.. The doctor gives him some "Smart" pills to try and tells him to return in 2 weeks.. 2 weeks later, guy goes back in and tells the Doc he still dont feel no smarter.. Doc gives him a months supply of "Smart Pills" and tells em to try again for a month and return.. Month goes by, guy returns, says he doesnt feel any smarter BUT,, he says,, "I gotta tell ya something,, these pills taste alot like Rabbit Crap Doc",, Doc smiles and says - Your getting smarter:Bunny:

Just because our Boss, Head Crappa, Grand Pubah, or whatever you would like to call Don, switched to a different bike, someone actually got offended. Because that is what it boils down to, we should start another thread all in one spot what we have done, or added to our garage. Several wings, some HD's (like me), some Can Ams, some Kaw Voyagers to name a few. And how many have triked their ventures as well? Seems to me that's a change. Change isn't always bad. I probly have said a few remarks comparing my RSTD to my Road Glide that could be considered a snipe at the Yammie, but it is just because I found a better "fit" for me. Not trying to bash anyone because riding is what its about. I can say that I have met less than a dozen people from this site. Only one I have met more than once. And Don is at the top of the list of the people that I hope to meet someday......Someday it will happen!!!!!

yep, and it was a good example of someone taking things a bit too personal.

All I can say is, don't be bashing my Victory or else I'm gonna leave!

OK I wont say it......

We ride and that is what is important and should be important to everyone. Mine is gold yours is red white or orange, I have a black one too, it really does not matter, we ride and that is what makes us family.

I will say this. Yammer Dan will NEVER be able to outrun me. He doesn't know where I installed the remote module that shuts his bike down. :)

I'm going to the garage!! I been wondering about that do hickey hanging under that other do hickey but its hid behind the thing a ma jig and hard to get too!!!:backinmyday:

All I can say is this sight is great and has been a huge help when working on my bike. I have never seen negative talk that wasn't in humor. So it sounds like to me some one just needs to grow a couple and get over it.

You know, it looks like you go through alot of stressful stuff just keeping this site going. I image its like a full time job! I always felt that if you were bashing on the yamaha or didnt like the yamaha you'd pass the torch, but just the fact that you put up with us, our ribbing about your harley ;), and just general site maintenance shows your dedication to both the yamaha and your FRIENDS HERE ON THE WEBSITE!!!!!

That member is entitled to his opinion, but frankly his opinion seems unfair.

Keep it up Freebird! Both us and Yamaha surely thank you!!!

I have to admit that I have taken my fare share of pot shots at Dons Hardley and he dont even try to defend himself.

I have been the admin for a forum in the past and I have a good idea of what Don goes thru on a daily basis, IT AINT EASY.

HEY!!!!!

Howd I get dragged in as the bad guy?????:moon::snow2:

Don, You once told me when you bought your Harley someone said "Welcome to the family." and your response was "I already have a family." To me this speaks volumes of your character, you showed concern for the former member and if it was me I would be grateful for it. BTW you and Eileen have displayed concern for me and my family so THANK YOU!!!

Nuff said, back to the Harley bashing!

Jay............you just ain't right in the head.

Don, I never saw any bashing from you. I do however see you taking a good lashing about your Harley. But, you take I tall in stride my friend. If I would have had any issue with a Harley, you and I would not have done that loooooooong ride down to Atlanta and back. Which, by the way....we need to do another ride again. I have no issues with you or anyone here. Spirited conversation does go on from time to time amongst us members, but in the end, I do not think that anyone here would leave a fellow member sitting along side the road no matter how mad they were at that member. You provide an awesome forum for us at a VERY reasonable price. I have been a member for 4 years I do believe and will be for many more to come. Keep up the great job, we all appreciate it and I look forward to seeing you at Maintainence Day!

So... I believe the member who recently left had been a member since Nov 2007 and had over 4,000 posts. I don't recall seeing any posts from him that I took as offensive or aggressive and he raised some interesting topics and made some positive posts. I think several members besides myself are surprised to see him move on.

He isn't the first long term member to leave and he won't be the last. From the time I joined in 2009 until now there have been some members who I thought made positive contributions to vr.org, who seemed to be one of the "core" members that have left. Some left quietly, some didn't. Some left because of conflicts with other members, some because of a few posts that had been made, and some for reasons we'll never know.

With the group here, I'm sure if the recent member that left were to come back, he would be welcomed back by the members, and by Freebird, and the past will be left in the past. Just the way this group is and one of the reasons why I joined and stay. It's one of the things that new members discover here, the friendly people, people that go out of their way to help others. People who accept other people's opinions and don't attack someone else for their views.

A lot has been said about Freebird (I use his handle so when I refer to "Don" it doesn't get confused with me - great name by the way). I agree Freebird has quite a job running this forum and has let a lot of threads go on even though some went against the rules of the site - because of the way the members treat each other with respect. One of the reasons the forum/threads run the way they are is because of Freebird - the example he sets with being open and honest, showing concern for members whether it is with free membership when someone is in financial difficulties or because someone has been absent for a while. I know when I've pm'd Freebird with concerns or issues, he has listened to my opinions and responded. Some administrators would ignore feedback or "slam" you for speaking your mind...but not Freebird.

I'm in agreement that Freebird's comments and comparisons since getting his HD haven't been to slight the Venture....no more so than what the rest of us say about Yamaha not supporting the model. Not everyone on the site has a Venture, some have moved on...but all are accepted, no matter what you ride...and even those that no longer have a bike. Says something when people remain members long after the Venture has gone from the stable.

Freebird...from your posts, pm's, meeting you in person.... you are a "class act". The reason the member left couldn't be about your attitude about the Venture. If you had a negative attitude about the Venture...you wouldn't still be running this forum.

Posted

Freebird, you do a admirable job administering the site and you would not be the one with thin skin in this case. All ever saw was a fair assessment of both bikes as you experinced them and some rather entertaining jocularity about your change over to the HD.

Thanks for all you do,

Scott A
