cowpuc Posted January 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2015 Noticed that KCA lives up in a place called "Kitimat" BC? Checking that area out on the members map,, WOW does that look gorgeous up there!! Anyone got any idea on what the touring is like in that region? Fuel availability, good time of year to play around up there? Are folks from the U.S. welcome up in there or is it still pretty much like in the days of Cowboys and Indians where folks who dont have much scalp to spare probably should avoid it? KCA, if you see this,, I noticed in your info that you caught a 185 pound Halibut? HOOOKKEEEE SPAMOKKEEE (around here that means WOW)!! How did you get you get it in the boat?? Hope all is well up there guys!! Puc

Hope all is well up there guys!! Puc Hey Dad, we stopped scalping when the economy tanked and the Canadian dollar wasn't worth as much compared to your greenback. So for now, you're safe to venture north of the 49th!!! Mind you, I doubt your scalp is worth much, limited hair and all!!! Kitimat sits at the head of an inlet to the salt chuck and it's a beautiful area. Lots of pristine wilderness, rivers, forests and wildlife in between towns. Great fishing both fresh and salt water. My biggest halibut was a 40 pound "chicken" but I've seen a 199 pounder. It completely filled the box of a pickup head to tail. You better start planning that Alaska trip so you can actually see some of this beautiful country of ours. Don't be curtailed by a couple bug splatters you got on Tweeks when you sneaked in last time. Those were the only bugs we've had in years! Doug What would be the best time of year to contaminate,,, I mean bless that area with the likes of Tweeks, Tip and I oh son of mine? Oh, by the way, Tweeks ask me to tell ya that those Royal Canadian bugs did nothing but add character to her already empyrean posterity BUT, the ice covered roads,, that might be a problem.. Sailor Posted January 25, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2015 I would head up to Spokane ( watch out for many radar traps near there) then on up to Cranbrook BC and plan to spend some time at Nelson. Several nice loop rides from there. Head west to Hope then north to Kitimat. It really doesn't matter what route you take you will be winding through mountains, past lakes and along rivers with some of the best scenery in the world. Sailor Posted January 25, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) Alternate route....head out to the coast and take the coast road up to Port Angeles and the ferry to Victoria on Vancouver island where you could be met by some Venture riders to escort you via Sooke and Duncan up to Nanaimo and ferry to the mainland then up to Whistler and beyond to Kamloops. Great scenery all the way. I would aim for June ( can sometimes be wet) July , August or September. Sept is my favorite month. The peak to peak gondola ride in Whistler is the highest and longest in the world. Take the glass bottom one for a real thrill. Guest divey Posted January 25, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2015 Sailor pretty much said it all. Take one route up and a different one back. June through September for sure. Biggest problem you'll run into is being able to get through Canada in time before the snow flies in Alaska because I suspect many of us will be wanting to throw out the welcome mat for you, Tip and Tweeks and you may just run out of time!! Maybe GaryN will chime in. I think he rode to Alaska a couple of years ago and can likely give some good advice. Doug
friesman Posted January 25, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 25, 2015 I plan to be riding around southern BC during the first 2 weeks of August and was planning on Cranbrook, Nelson, Kelowna Kamloops and wherever the wind blows the bike. If youre in the area around that time, left me know maybe we could meet and see some scenery together. Brian

friesman Posted February 13, 2015 Share #14 Posted February 13, 2015 A couple of Calgary AB bikers run a biker tv show a half dozen times a year. They post ride ideas from all over Alberta and BC, and look like they have some fun while doing it. Anyone looking at travelling by bike into Alberta or BC might find these shows interesting, there are 3 seasons of videos listed. Ill put up the link to the Kananaskis Pass episode outside of Calgary and if you want to see more you'll have to follow the links in YouTube. Brian I have always considered the "eay" that our Canadian friends use as a magical accent! I could sit for HOURS and listen to my Kanuck friends talk because,, I LOVE that "eay" accent.. Know what I mean,, eay? Bottom line,, when Tip and I finally do get to make our trip up there, we are gonna spend as much time as possible (gonna cross into Canada in lower Michigan) up there with you Kanucks.. Hopefully, some of that "eay" accent will rub off on us so we can show off our Canadian accents when we get home!!!!!
