KIC Posted January 23, 2015 #8 Posted January 23, 2015 I am TDY in the Las Cruces New Mexico area. The lying weatherman said chance of rain yesterday. Woke up to this: The city pretty much shut down since they are not use to this. Spent most the day in a hotel room typing reports... It was melting by late afternoon... its 20 degrees right now and the parking lot is all ice....

Snaggletooth Posted January 24, 2015 #14 Posted January 24, 2015 The lying weatherman said chance of rain yesterday. Woke up to this: So who trusts those guys? Back in Omaha 40 years ago this month the radio said "Slight chance of flurries today". Took me 3 hours to get across town to get to work and 5 days to get back to the house. Spent most my stranded time in the shop office calling the radio station and asking to speak to the moron weatherman without a window. After the second day they actually started connecting me. Flurries my butt.
Bubber Posted January 24, 2015 #15 Posted January 24, 2015 Glad we could share with you southern folks, hate to keep all the fun to us. BTW it was 40 degrees here in Minnesota. ENJOY
Yammer Dan Posted January 24, 2015 #16 Posted January 24, 2015 A long story but when we got the Blizzard in 78 we had just planted a telephone pole in the hole when we decided to eat lunch. Leaving the truck hooked to the pole we got into the truck without a sign of white crap anywhere. I bent over and picked up my lunch box from the floor and opened it to see what I had for lunch. I looked back up and the world was white!!! We ate lunch and watched the snow for a bit and had a rough time getting that hole filled with dirt and that pole tamped up with all that white crap in the hole!! And still had to go back later and refill it after all the snow that got mixed in with the dirt melted. We had good tires on the truck and did make it back to the shop in time to get sent out on a broken pole. Car slid into it!! We got done putting everything back in the air about 4;30 in the next morning. Went back to shop slept about a hr there and worked the next day on another broken pole. Did I mention I HATE SNOW???
Bubber Posted January 24, 2015 #17 Posted January 24, 2015 Snow is good Snow should be shared with our southern neighbors Snow makes things nice and white Snow makes for snow ball fights Come up north and we'll teach ya how to drive on the stuff 6 months out of the year. Glad we could share our white stuff with you so you could enjoy it as much as we do. All kidding aside, when I used to work in the body shop we prayed for snow. People wouldn't learn to slow down till the 3rd or 4th snow fall. We were busy all winter long.
Squidley Posted January 24, 2015 #18 Posted January 24, 2015 Something you Northern folks need to remember about snow in Texas. It will be gone in a day or so and you will still have it up there
Gray Ghost Posted January 24, 2015 #19 Posted January 24, 2015 Come up north and we'll teach ya how to drive on the stuff 6 months out of the year. I have spent time stationed up north of the frost line. Happiest day of my life was when I sold my snow blower in Wisconsin before heading south for the sunshine. Thought seriously about strapping a snow shovel to the front of the truck and driving south until someone asked me what it was, then going another 100 miles to settle. Seeing the snow yesterday, I guess I should have done that.
Bubber Posted January 24, 2015 #21 Posted January 24, 2015 Something you Northern folks need to remember about snow in Texas. It will be gone in a day or so and you will still have it up there Has it been that long since you lived up north or are you now a converted soul lost to the warmer weather? As you know people here in the upper mid-west know how to have fun in the snow and cold weather. Snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing, you know,...... that kind of crap we keep telling ourselves and others. PS don't pi$$ of Flyinfool, he has no sense of humor and a snow machine.

Gray Ghost Posted January 26, 2015 #24 Posted January 26, 2015 That is BRILLIANT! When I relocate I'm gonna try this and see if it works. I'll wave as you drive past, just give me a heads up so I don't spend all year sitting by the road.
