krispy Posted July 28, 2009 Share #683 Posted July 28, 2009 Here you go!! A run to New Ulm, MN for a picnic at the Schell's Brewery Park. First pic is me with bike in front of the brewery (Denise took the shot, as we had no ready volunteers for the camera. Then a shot of the sign for company headquarters. A shot thru some of the gardens, toward the old home on the grounds. And best of all, my little 3 yr old g-daughter helping Gampa polish up the bike for the road. Next target: you, your bike, and an old country church that is still in use.
Guest seuadr Posted July 28, 2009 Share #684 Posted July 28, 2009 Here ya go! http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030577_1024x768.jpg this church is about 30 mins from my house, on the way into lansing on 99. i love this church, as the steeple is in the corner, and perpendicular to the rest of the church. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030579_1024x768.jpg right next door to the church, a sinners car! http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030580_1024x768.jpg just up the road from that church is a cemetary. there are no buildings anywhere near it, but it's mown and upkept by someone. i couldn't find a single headstone that was dated newer than 1910. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030582_1024x768.jpg this one says 1868. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030584_1024x768.jpg the rose was remarkably visible on this, for being erected in 1860. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030588_1024x768.jpg this stone was not a military stone, but there was a vet star next to the grave and an american flag. i believe it says 1886. around here, there are quite a few civil war stones, but one two in this cemetary. then again, it seemed to hold about 6 familes, and 2 were civil war vets: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030586_1024x768.jpg i did a little digging. looks like 4 searles were involved in the civil war in the area: Searles, Merrick 1st Artillery, Battery C Hawley Ingham Co., Mi Searles, Frederick 7th Infantry, Company B Hawley Ingham Co., Mi Searles, Hiram E.** 26th Infantry, Company D Skinner [Private] Eaton Co., Mi Searles, William F. 1st Artillery, Battery A Woodland Jackson, Mi but H.H isn't listed. i thought that was a little odd. Scooter Bob Posted August 1, 2009 Share #691 Posted August 1, 2009 Petticoat Junction It was a comedy TV show in the late 60's or early 70,s ( it was in color). That line is part of the show beginning song. I just have to think somebody must have named their hotel/motel after it. I think I've seen a couple here in WI over the years.
