XV1100SE Posted January 21, 2015 #1 Posted January 21, 2015 Looking at getting a part (black abs) chromed. I know this question came up in 2008 but times and processes have changed. Anyone know of a process or company (hopefully in Ontario) that chromes plastic? I've been recommended to two companies : Chromatics Chroming - We Chrome Everything (Stoney Creek) EZChrome Solutions Inc. (Otterville) Anyone with experience with either of these companies or knows the chroming process for ABS ?
Flyinfool Posted January 21, 2015 #4 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) There is this place that claim they can chrome anything. Coat of Chrome - Don't Paint it Chrome It - Coat of Chrome Chrome-It Home Page There are a number of places using this same process. Edited January 21, 2015 by Flyinfool
XV1100SE Posted January 21, 2015 Author #5 Posted January 21, 2015 Does the model in the picture come with the chrome? :-)
eagleeye Posted January 21, 2015 #6 Posted January 21, 2015 Yes, but I would imagine there is a slight/small extra charge.
SilvrT Posted January 21, 2015 #7 Posted January 21, 2015 Does the model in the picture come with the chrome? :-) She's too scrawney/boney but that was 2006 ... maybe she's filled out some by now...
friesman Posted January 22, 2015 #8 Posted January 22, 2015 Ive done a bit of looking around, now that my interest has been tweaked about this stuff. Here is a link to a couple of vids that show how this stuff looks and how to apply it. Super Chrome — Tsunami Hydrographic Coatings | Camo & Hydro Dipping | Custom Hydrographics |Washington Brian
XV1100SE Posted January 22, 2015 Author #9 Posted January 22, 2015 Ideally the chrome on plastic matches the other chrome that I'm having done. Pics to follow once I get stuff done.

Pegasus1300 Posted January 23, 2015 #11 Posted January 23, 2015 Yes, but I would imagine there is a slight/small extra charge. I'll bet neither the entry fee or the upkeep would be slight/small
eusa1 Posted January 23, 2015 #12 Posted January 23, 2015 I had the lower clear plastic portions of my upper fairing chromed by a place in Madison Wisconsin Chrome Tech USA Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Over 20 Years Experience - Chrome tech usa, Chrome plating service, vacuum metallizing, for plastic on model cars, toys and automotive interior dash pannels not cheap and not fast, but it looks good.
Eck Posted January 23, 2015 #13 Posted January 23, 2015 I have a couple Goldwing placards (on both side covers) that I would like to get re-chromed - (or replaced).
XV1100SE Posted January 23, 2015 Author #14 Posted January 23, 2015 The process looks good when you see the videos. I'm going to talk with the two places that are relatively local over the next week and will decide which one to try.
XV1100SE Posted January 26, 2015 Author #15 Posted January 26, 2015 I know that DiamondR sells chrome battery side covers ($140 US) but when you add the exchange rate (about 20%), and shipping.... I got them chromed at a local shop for $200 CDN (cash, no tax). Worked out about the same cost. The reason I asked about chroming plastic is because in planning to do the side covers, I wanted the plastic piece that goes between the side covers (in front of the battery box) chromed as well. I am going to take it in this week to get it done (approx cost $70). I'll post the results once I get them back. Pics attached of the chromed side covers, and what it looks like with the battery box cover in black. I'll post pics when I get the plastic back.
bongobobny Posted January 26, 2015 #16 Posted January 26, 2015 Great idea Don, maybe I'll do mine too! Do they charge by the piece or just the time spent?
XV1100SE Posted January 26, 2015 Author #17 Posted January 26, 2015 Great idea Don, maybe I'll do mine too! Do they charge by the piece or just the time spent? Depends on the prep work required. For the plastic piece that goes between the battery side covers (8"x8.5") the price thru email is $60-$90 for the one piece. The base coat, chrome, and top coat are sprayed on. Doing multiple pieces, I would guess they could be sprayed at the same time, with the main variable being the prep work. I'm going to give the shop the piece tomorrow. They say they are backed up about 4 weeks but at least mine will be done before riding season starts.
