What is the backend database? MySQL? MS SQL? etc ... If any of those, you might be able to link the appropriate tables into either Access or Excel using ODBC. That way any reporting done from, say Access, will show the up-to-date info.

(just tryin to help)

MySQL. You are surpassing my level of competence though. If I have any at all.

Beer in the fridge.............Dang ..............I know I have to get up your way one of these days..

I assume the info you all are talking about is in the members list. If so is there a way to sort it by state and province like there use to be? Sure would make it easier to find somebody. Especially when you don't know who lives in a particular state/province you are visiting.

Don, Not to complicate things, but is it easily possible to put VRA next to or under our handle in the balloon in the members map when one hovers over the balloon that way if your broke down it is much simpler to find help or lodging?:icon_smile_question

That is a great idea and I would love to do it but ..... I don't think I can. Maybe somebody much smarter than me could. The only way I know to do it would be for me to manually edit everybody's username that is on the assistance list. Then I would have to manually do it everytime somebody signed up or got off. Just way too much. Even changing the balloon colors seems to be a no go.

Not at this time Gary. I agree that it's needed and am looking for a way to do it.

Gary that would also require everyone to actually fill in their "state/Providence" which Freebird has already asked and still a lot not done.....LOL

Yeah, and the state needs to be removed from the city column.

At some point a Street address will need to be added to everyone's Basic information in order to accommodate a GPS.

A Comment area in Basic information would allow people to expand their thoughts on assistance.

Also, some rules/common courtesies would probably be in order.

This effort is not as simple as it appears.

Thanks Don for making this possible.

I doubt that a street address will be added. I think a lot of people would be uncomfortable having TOO much information listed. It is protected for "supporting members" only but things do get hacked on the Internet. The "city/state" is somewhat obsolete. It was added for another purpose at one time and has been basically replaced by the state flag mod. The only purpose it serves is to quickly show a members city/state when they make a post. Remove it and it will just show their city and the flag shows the state. In my opinion, the street address is not needed. I think that most people would appreciate a phone call before somebody just shows up at their door. As for expanding and adding a comment area, that becomes a problem if you folks want a list that can be printed and fits on a single width page. That is what I struggle with. As it is not, it will print out properly if you orient the printer to landscape mode. If it is any wider, it will not.

Now it would be very easy for me to create a new profile field for such comments and not make them part of the members list. Then you could click on the username and go to their profile for further information. That information would not be available on the printed list but would be if you were online.

Depending on the care a member takes when placing their respective location pointer when updating the Member's Map, one can determine the member's location by zooming in on the map. If the pointer is placed accurately, zooming in will reveal the street and location on that street. And I doubt that any bot will be able to obtain a street address.

For instance:

I found where Cowpuc lives (is this your place?):

Comments would be sufficient as a field in the basic info. That way one could expand their thoughts on assistance. Like Pucs "just put up a tent comment."

My comment would probably be something like this:

Check in at office for camping space and bathroom code. If after 10pm please setup on a site and will see you in the morning. My address is 4 Ruby Lake Rd, Sandyville,WV 25275

Be it everrrr,, soo,, huuumble,, theres nooo place like home!!

EXACTLY PRAIRIE!! And,, the reason that I put that pointer where I did is SO,, if you, or any other member is roaming thru this neck of woods,, 3 A.M. in the morning - needing a place to drop your tent, you can zoom in and follow the pointer right to that driveway, pull in beside the garage (I actually have my locator pointer pointing toward a camping spot with a fire pit, that always has campfire wood by it in the back yard, but anywhere is fine) - park in the front yard,, doesnt matter,, pop the tent and hit the hay - NO PHONE CALL NEEDED!! I wanted to do that cause we are in and out of here a LOT during the summer, catching us around during riding time can be difficult BUT - there is no reason why folks cant camp here in the security of our home..

There are others living here usually (Son and his family, daughter) who ALL know, and are used to it, that on any given morning, they may look out the front window and see someone sleeping next to their bike in our yard.. Of course,, being my kids,, they all remember the day when THEY were the ones sleeping next to the bike in some strange place!! :big-grin-emoticon:

Yep,, you can use the same bathroom my buddies and I use when we are working on our bikes out front, cookin hot dogs and drag racing up and down Green Creek Road:big-grin-emoticon:!!

Short story about this subject Prairie,, my oldest daughter and I are headed out west on her first bike trip.. It was one long day of riding the first day, made into Nebraska.. About 2 A.M. when we pulled into a little town, passed a shopping mall, turned around and parked on the parking lot next to some trees.. She was crying that she couldnt sleep there in the open (first trips are always the hardest).. I said sure ya can,, lay down here next to your ol poppers and help me count those stars - you'll fall asleep.. Couple minutes later she announces shes gotta pee pee.. I laughed, stood up and said well come on, I will show you the bathroom.. After she stood up, I grabbed a sleeping bag and she followed me over into the trees.. I held the bag up and told her I wouldnt peek.. Her :95:really cranked up!!

About three weeks later we were scurrying back across Nebraska headed home.. Again,, late at night, far off the interstate - just rolling east,, saw the lights of a small town in the distance,, thought we'd stop and see if they had a town park to drop our tent down,, as we passed a mall we realized it was the SAME place we camped on our first day out!!! THIS TIME WE BOTH LAUGHED OURSELVES TO SLEEP AS WE SLEPT UNDER THAT SAME TREE!!

Here are a couple shots of that same daughter and I (she is a school teacher now in California) 2 years ago on our way back from touring Yosemite/Kings Canyon.. Got late and we dropped the tent on a school soccer field - notice those teary eyes of a child are now longggg gone!!!

You folks are causing what I have left to just fall out. I'm trying very hard to get the VR Assistance list reduced to a width that will print on a single page in width. I just about had it so that it would do so in Landscape mode.

So what you do do? You enter 2 or 3 telephone numbers per field, add more address information, notes to other users. I understand why but we have to try to keep it manageable enough to fit on a page. When you start adding all kinds of other information, it gets wider and wider.

I'm going to reset the fields to limit the number of characters that can be typed into a field. Please edit your listings and choose the best numbers to use please.

Done. Thanks for the effort Don. I have no spare bedroom but lots of trees and grass and bathroom and hot meals and tools.
