I'd like to hard wire the power source for my XM, and i've searched a couple ways to do it that look straight forward. My question is, the power cord that I have now indicates 5vdc, is there some sort of resistor in the cigarette adapter that lowers the voltage to the unit, or is that just a minimum and will run off 12vdc no problem?

Thanks

No, you do not want to hook it to 12 volts. What I did was to buy a wired 12 volt receptacle like an extension or something. You can get them at most any Walmart, Auto parts store, etc. I then connected it inside the fairing, plugged the XM power unit into it, put a couple of wraps of tape around it so that it wouldn't come unplugged.

Or you can go to Radio Shack and get a 7805A 5 VDC regulator IC. 1 leg goes to 12 VDC, one to ground and the other is 5 VDC out. Priced at around $2.00
