Angelo Posted January 2, 2015 #1 Posted January 2, 2015 Do you need to drain the oil before pulling the cover? I know there will be some oil lost when doing so, but how much is up there?
bongobobny Posted January 2, 2015 #2 Posted January 2, 2015 Yes you will loose a small amount of oil depending on how much of a lean you have on the bike. Expect to loose about a cup give or take. You could always do an oil change along with the stator swap...

MiCarl Posted January 2, 2015 #4 Posted January 2, 2015 If you have it vertical you'll only lose what is laying in the cover. On the side stand you might lose more.
Angelo Posted January 2, 2015 Author #5 Posted January 2, 2015 On the lift I lost about a quart, so not bad at all. I finally found that damn connector for the stator. Had to pull the left side exhaust to get my hands in to where the wiring comes up from under the engine and it was tucked up under the bracket that holds the coolant tank. Had just enough length to get to the connector itself, should be fun reconnecting it.
