Kicking around the Harley dealer today, saw several bikes with run flat tires. I guess the police use them but are available for retail puchase. First time I have seen these on a bike. There must be some drawbacks or most bikes would have them. Any experience anyone?

biggin, i haven't got any "first hand" experience, with run flats.

however both of my brothers have them on their "kz1000P's"

they are primarily police bike tires, and i would imagine they are pretty expensieve!

I should have priced them. They would have to be pretty expensive to not be worth it, imho, if there are no ride or wear issues.

I found this on a search that answers the question I guess.

These "run-flat" tires, supplied by Dunlop, were able to increase safety significantly by enabling the rider to safely slow to a stop if the tires are damaged in a high-speed pursuit. However, the very thick sidewalls on run-flat tires transmit a much greater level of road shock to the handlebars, increasing rider fatigue, prompting operating agencies to migrate to standard high-performance tires. As a result, Dunlop discontinued production of the run-flats. The most popular replacement tires are provided by Metzeler.

Oh well. Maybe someday it will be perfected. I would be a buyer then.
