mcgwire723 Posted December 21, 2014 #1 Posted December 21, 2014 I have a 2012 RSV, and I'm having a problem with the passing lights. The right side will go off and come back on at random times going down the road. Has anyone experienced this problem? Both bulbs are new and still do the same thing. Thanks for any help.
MikeWa Posted December 21, 2014 #2 Posted December 21, 2014 It could be a poor ground connection, a poor power connection under the fairing or a bad bulb. It will help you a lot if you can make it flicker by tapping on it. Mike
djh3 Posted December 22, 2014 #3 Posted December 22, 2014 Look in the piviot point of the forks. The passing light "bundle" of wires is there. Sometimes they will get pin vh1 ed or a bullit connector comes loose. But definatly sounds like a ground problem.
Bert2006 Posted December 22, 2014 #4 Posted December 22, 2014 While you are looking at the pivot point for the forks check for any chaffed or pinched wire. It is common for wires to get pinched by the steering stops on both sides.
mcgwire723 Posted December 28, 2014 Author #5 Posted December 28, 2014 Sorry for taking so long to reply, I will look at those items, I was thinking ground also, Thanks for the input.
Bubber Posted December 28, 2014 #6 Posted December 28, 2014 Just like with a trailer it is always the ground.
Squidley Posted December 28, 2014 #7 Posted December 28, 2014 Something you may want to think about is if it's hooked up from the factory, it's not the best configuration. I have always run a dedicated wire through a relay to power the passing lights. There are several threads in the forum on doing this. I do agree with others that a bad ground could be your culprit.
davecb Posted December 29, 2014 #8 Posted December 29, 2014 I had the same problem. If the light were not installed properly the wire going to the bulb socket can get pinchd and eventually breeak. On my other sidr, the ground wire inside the light housing seperated. I had to resolder it to the housing. Be careful you don't get the housing too hot because I think it could blue up the chrome.
djh3 Posted December 30, 2014 #9 Posted December 30, 2014 Inside the light, if its a h-3 halogen bulb there is a ground wire that screws to the housing back. Mine does not allways make a good contact, and last time I had it appart I had to add a washer to make it get good contact.
