BIG TOM Posted March 23, 2008 #1 Posted March 23, 2008 I UNCOVERED MY RIDE TODAY IN HOPE THAT BY CLEANING AND WAXING IT UP ,I COULD FORCE BETTER WEATHER HERE IN NEW YORK.. WHEN I SAT DOWN I HEARD THIS AWFUL SQUEEK UNDER ME..SOUNDS LIKE RUBBER AGAINST RUBBER. I CHECKED THE AIR IN THE REAR SHOCK AND FOUND 0 PSI. I THEN TRIED TO REPLACE THE AIR BUT IT JUST LEAKS OUT. WONT HOLD ANY..IT WILL HOLD FOR A MINUTE THEN ITS GONE...BEING THAT IM 35 MILES FROM MY DEALER ,IM WONDERING IF ITS SAVE TO RIDE IT THERE WHEN IT WARMS UP..ANY ONE EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN?
Venturous Randy Posted March 23, 2008 #2 Posted March 23, 2008 Boy, would this be a good time to make a comment about these great 1st gens, but I won't. RandyA
V7Goose Posted March 23, 2008 #3 Posted March 23, 2008 Many Many of us have had that worthless rear shock go out - that is what happened to you. Usually it just pukes the oil and still holds air, but sounds like your's we the other way. Get the dealer to replace it. May or may not be "safe" to ride that way, but sure won't be fun. Take it in. Goose
Uturn Posted March 23, 2008 #4 Posted March 23, 2008 One thing good, your 05 is still under warranty. When I replaced my '99 rear shock, it was at my expense. Easy to replace, so no labor charge, just cost of the part. MIKE aka Uturn
BIG TOM Posted March 23, 2008 Author #5 Posted March 23, 2008 Thanks Randy But, Your No Help..but Glad I Gave You The Oppertunity To Throw A Shot..

Guest KitCarson Posted March 23, 2008 #7 Posted March 23, 2008 Your Bike will be quite safe to ride as far as you wish to ride it. When new they come with zero air in the shocks....that is stock and standard fare. I never did run air in my rear shock, tried it and then let it back out.......I wanted the lower center of gravity and more balance, just personal preference. But never loaded the bike heavy either......but will be safe to ride on just the spring.
Orrin Posted March 23, 2008 #8 Posted March 23, 2008 Big Tom, try riding a short distance then try a little air and see if it holds. May work maybe not, but a friend told me about that on another bike and it worked. Never had another problem.
