Joshua Sameulson Posted December 17, 2014 #1 Posted December 17, 2014 Good afternoon. I've googled a bit and looked around some on this site and have a quick question. Just picked up an 84 Venture and am trying to take the saddle bags off. There's a key toward the back and it does rotate freely. What do you do after you turn the key to remove the bags? I've pulled back, pushed forward and pulled straight out. I'm wondering if the key itself is actually doing anything, almost too easy for a 30 yr old lock. TIA
Neil86 Posted December 17, 2014 #2 Posted December 17, 2014 So you are using the lock on forward end of saddlebag, correct. Unlock, and move bag straight backwards then you lift it off. You will see the 2 pins that stick out of the case to engage into mounts.
Venturous Randy Posted December 18, 2014 #4 Posted December 18, 2014 If the lock is jammed and not working, open the side and remove the three screws that hold the lock on the bag. RandyA
bongobobny Posted December 18, 2014 #5 Posted December 18, 2014 Sometimes they need a little smacking around to get them off/on...
flyday58 Posted December 18, 2014 #6 Posted December 18, 2014 The locks on mine were shot, key turned continuously. Ended up using a screwdriver to pry the latch pin back enough to clear the slot so I could lift the saddle bags off. Trunk lock was fine, at least.

They came off rather easily knowing how they work, thanks everyone for the input.
Yammer Dan Posted December 24, 2014 #8 Posted December 24, 2014 You might want to spend a little time on those locks and lube them up good to preserve them. I took mine completely apart cleaned and lubed them.
