Goose68 Posted December 7, 2014 #1 Posted December 7, 2014 I am in the process of upgrading my front brakes on my 84. I have 89 forks and rotors, and 2002 R1 calipers. My question is what else am I needing and when I buy new pads I know I want EBC but should I buy organic or Sintered thanks for any help
bongobobny Posted December 7, 2014 #2 Posted December 7, 2014 That's personal preference as to organic or metallic, the organic are less abrasive, quieter and less grabby whereas semi metallic have more aggressive braking. You also want to add stainless steel brake lines to your setup, they alone make a huge difference in effectiveness...
Venturous Randy Posted December 7, 2014 #3 Posted December 7, 2014 I am in the process collecting parts for converting my 83 to MKII forks, rotors and R1 calipers. I am currently running EBC HH on the bike, but with the changeover, I don't think I want the grabiness of the HH's. I think I may have better control and suffient braking with something less agressive, especially if I delink. Good question. RandyA
Prairiehammer Posted December 7, 2014 #4 Posted December 7, 2014 I had SBS 613HS sintered pads in the stock calipers on my 1990. If I jumped on both brakes, as in a emergency stop, the front wheel would lock up. Never having locked up the front wheel before, no matter the braking effort, I was understandably quite surprised. No harm the first time and I didn't encounter another emergency braking situation again until the guy cut me off in Ohio. As I counter-steered to the left and applied full braking, the front wheel locked up and down we went.
