tucson_sailors Posted December 8, 2014 #26 Posted December 8, 2014 had a kid tell me I had a nice Honda sportster LOL Hondaly-Davidson Sportster Royale-Glidewing, perhaps?
Angelo Posted December 8, 2014 #27 Posted December 8, 2014 You Ride?? My all time favorite question. I love to be a smart ass so this one gives me plenty of practice, what's scary is how often I get asked that question.
Sailor Posted December 8, 2014 #28 Posted December 8, 2014 Standing at the ferry ticket booth in full leathers and wearing my helmet " You in a truck or a car?"
Dragonslayer Posted December 8, 2014 #29 Posted December 8, 2014 That's what I get a lot or, Nice Harley...... One guy said "I heard 120,000 of those Harleys were just recalled"... I said" then I'm glad this ain't a Harley"
CMCOFFEY Posted December 8, 2014 #30 Posted December 8, 2014 "When ya gonna upgrade to a Harley" while in Idaho at a gas station with Nevada Plates "can you ride that thing all loaded down like that" "is it heavy" "Can you teach me to ride on that thing?" Heck no I can't. They always ask when I am on the 1st gen. I guess they think it is an old POS and I don't care about it. Little do they know, that is my favorite out of all 9 of the bike I have owned over the past decade.
leo3wheel Posted December 8, 2014 #31 Posted December 8, 2014 When riding our trike, vehicles pull along side, take pictures and give thumbs up. Love the color! How much? What are the specs? Have reverse? Does it have enough power? Is it comfortable? Brother-in-law says it pulls to the right! Is that a Harley? Cop said he noticed my trailer hitch carrier, yada, yada, yada. Jeannette sits there? Does it have independent suspension?
Sailor Posted December 8, 2014 #32 Posted December 8, 2014 That is just a copy of a Harley. Yea, except it has 4 cylinders instead of two ( they usually go around the bike counting them at this point) It is water cooled instead of air cooled. I usually have to point out the rad. It has shaft drive, they never noticed, and it makes a lot more power. But other than that you are right, it has two wheels, handlebars and a seat just like a harley.
Venturous Randy Posted December 8, 2014 #33 Posted December 8, 2014 I don't remember where I was, but there was a lot of bikes. I had this kid, probably around 12, walk right up to me and boldly ask me "why are you not riding a Harley?". I turned around and boldly looked him in the face and told him, "I like to ride too much" he asked, "what does that mean"? I told him that "I would rather be riding the bike, than having to work on it". I wonder what he told his dad? RandyA

Prairiehammer Posted December 8, 2014 #35 Posted December 8, 2014 As a First Gen rider, I have NEVER had anyone question me about it being a 'Harley'. On the other hand, some have assumed my Venture is a 'Gold Wing'. Gold Wing v. Harley. Hmmm. I honestly do not know which I want to be associated with. How about... "IT IS A YAMAHA, MORON". The frigging 'Yamaha' designation is as big as Yamaha could make it and 'gold plated' to boot.
BratmanXj Posted December 8, 2014 #36 Posted December 8, 2014 I've got HD Screaming Eagle mufflers on mine but it's still a pretty quiet. Had a contractor on a job site tell me how much louder his HD was and I needed to do something to mine. Don't need to, unlike HD I don't need to scream "look at me, I'm TRYING to accelerate."
MJ44 Posted December 9, 2014 #37 Posted December 9, 2014 Most often asked question: Does it have reverse? My answer: Yes, left and right foot.
Brake Pad Posted December 9, 2014 #39 Posted December 9, 2014 A cop asks do you know how fast you were going ? I answer of course I do but in the back of my mind I'm thinking there's no way I'm going to tell you
dacheedah Posted December 9, 2014 #40 Posted December 9, 2014 raining for hours, Riding in the pouring rain and stop for gas. Folks in a car ask me, what are you going to do if it rains?
cowpuc Posted December 9, 2014 #41 Posted December 9, 2014 A cop asks do you know how fast you were going ? I answer of course I do but in the back of my mind I'm thinking there's no way I'm going to tell you :rotf::rotf::rotf: Yes,,, there are times in life when the truth really is painful BUT,, I have found there are just as many times that it is down right hilarious,,, the word picture you just painted my dear friend Brake Pad is one of them!!:rotf::rotf::rotf:
aharbi Posted December 9, 2014 #42 Posted December 9, 2014 Two stories: Once while putting on my helmet while standing next to my bike, an older lady parked next to me getting into her mini asked "aren't you getting too old for that sort of thing? As I often do when I see folks taking picture of each other I offer to take a picture of them all together. At a scenic overlook with a van full of geriatric females I again offered. They gladly accepted and I was handed 3 cameras and 2 cell phones. After returning all the equipment as I walked back to my bike I heard one lady complain to her friends "but I wanted a picture with the motorcycle man". I smiled the rest of the day.
cowpuc Posted December 9, 2014 #43 Posted December 9, 2014 Few years back my cousin, who had very little experience on a bike and NONE in touring on one, decides he wants to go cross country with me... During the process of learning the ropes while out in Utah a big storm was in our path.. He motioned me to pull over.. Being quite nervous about riding out his first genuine out west summer storm he asked if I had any pointers.. I explained to him that rain gear is pointless, high speed is your best friend, tuck the legs in,, tuck the shield and peer either over the top in the draft zone or off the side.. We jumped off the back roads onto 15 between Vegas heading north below where 70 comes in.. By the time we got to 70 we had passed a number of cars - tucked into our bikes, lettin em buck... We pulled into a Sonic resturant burger joint right near the 15/70 exchange to admire the huge storm we had just rode thru.. Standing there talking in completely dry tee shirts and jeans, my cousin kept patting me on the back and telling me how amazed he was at how dry we were and thanking me for teaching how to ride those wild western rains... Few minutes passed by,, a couple in a van with a bunch of kids pulled in.. The lady got out of the van,, stood there staring at the bikes, came walking over to our table and asked if those were our bikes... Expecting some kind of snide remark about us not riding Harleys,, I reluctantly admitted that the old beat up Venture with the Mule Deer horns on it was indeed,, my bike... She looked at us both, shook her head and said "when you two went flying by us on the highway I looked at my husband and said - DA%^,,, if they ride that fast in a thunderstorm I wonder how fast they ride when the suns shining"
midnightrider1300 Posted December 9, 2014 #44 Posted December 9, 2014 What kind of Harley is that? Does it have heat and air ? Wheres the wipers? I pull up at gas station radio blaring, cut the bike off and some1 will say That has a radio? you can hear that when you ride? How long you been riding?
ricksbike Posted December 9, 2014 #45 Posted December 9, 2014 I love the ones that have to tell you all their horror stories(my friend was killed on one of those things or I got hit by a car so I don`t ride any more) takes all kinds I guess.
ricksbike Posted December 9, 2014 #46 Posted December 9, 2014 I forgot my stupid question reply----( How do you hold that up,Isn`t it awful heavy?) I love the look on their faces when I tell them I don`t hold it up the wheels and tires do.
Sailor Posted December 9, 2014 #47 Posted December 9, 2014 "Why don't you have a Harley?" "Because I would rather ride it than push it." Where is the seat belt?
cowpuc Posted December 9, 2014 #48 Posted December 9, 2014 I love the ones that have to tell you all their horror stories(my friend was killed on one of those things or I got hit by a car so I don`t ride any more) takes all kinds I guess. I hear that Rickster and, like you, have had those same comments far to often... While I must say it seems like the older Tip n I get and the more of a sticker covered wore out ol highway conversation piece Tweeks becomes the less of those types of comments we get.. Besides contributing to me as a natural born show off and loving to draw attention to myself, Tweeks vast supply of stickers draw comments and induce discussions from innocent bystanders - they work if ya love to talk... Ironically,, they seem to work as well as going over backwards on a wheelie and laying in a pool of my own blood in front of a crowd,,, whole lot less painful too... I digress... The "normal" question we receive these days seems to be - have you folks actually ridden to all those places? - that being asked from very young children to very old people alike.. Every once in a great while we get one of those statements to which you refer.. I am a little different than some folks as I actually LOVE sitting around an old gas station or hot dog stand,, yapping with people for hours,, no hurry, no rush,,, just making new friends and sharing life,,, I spend a LOT of ride time doing it.. That being said,, I always formulate a response to peoples comments to create dialog and have successfully done so many times with comments such as the ones you brought up.. 2 years ago out in Canyon Lands National Park we had stopped to fill up our water jug.. A gentleman and his wife pulled up in their packed up motor home, got out to yap and the first comment was "THAT is a very dangerous way to travel, lots of folks get killed on bikes every year"... I looked up, brushed some caked on desert dust off my pant leg, smiled and said "you got that right, you ride one of these monsters ya really gotta watch where your going".. Then I looked at his motor home sitting behind him,, asked what year it was (gorgeous rig),, told him I had heard that some of those big rigs have had problems with roll over on corners resulting in deaths... Before long, he and I were under his motor home measuring wheel stance and looking at his suspention for weak springs and bad shocks - anything that could create a roll over... Later,, as we were standing there drinking one of the ice cold pops out of his refrigerator, the mood had changed a little and he looked over at his wife and Tippy standing by Tweeks and chatting... He looked at me and finally asked,,,, "so,, have you two biked to all those places"....
blue mtn. jim Posted December 10, 2014 #49 Posted December 10, 2014 Stopped at Mc' Donalds once and ordered a ice cream and the young lady said, would you like fries with that!!!!
