The Gerbings is $60 more (approx)per pants / jacket liner. The First Gear says the pants liner warms thigh, knee and upper seat and the Gerbings says it warms the leg. I guess I am just looking for opinions on that. Any users have input?

 

Also for a passenger which would you recommend starting with, pants of jacket ... I'm thinking pants since I block a TON of wind :rotf:

I got my wife the gerbing jacket liner. Works very well. She wears chaps when it's cold out and the liner. Most of the time all she needs to do is wear the liner and not even turn it on because of the extra insulation. However when the temps drop or if it's windy the liner keeps her toasty. Body heat loss (at least for her) is more noticeable than legs

I am thinking of going with Firstgear because each individual piece if 30% less, and there are no bad reviews to speak of... It's a lot of money for us, so I am interested in all opinions. Maybe the jacket is the piece to get first... with some chaps. I think my wife just might look pretty good in some chaps!

Picture a pair of chaps, that's where the heating microfibers are. (shin, knee, thigh and around sides of hip). Nothing on backside but all the clothing contains thinsulate which by itself retains heat.

 

Bought a thinsulate beanie for hunting and it's three times warmer.

 

I'd get the jacket liner and controller first.(will keep her core warm) as a passenger she can stick her hands in her pockets.

 

next: boot inserts (if your feet get cold you'll be miserable) the insoles come with a "Y" cord you run down each pant leg and plug into controller.

 

then: Glove liner (will plug into jacket, or, you can use "Y" cord)... then pants liner...

Interesting thanks! So the boot liners have cords long enough to reach to the controller, so they are good to plug in without the pants to reach that far? Thanks... Never thought of most of the stuff you talked about, but you certainly gave me some of the info I was looking for.

The insole's cord is 12" long, the "y" cord is 40" long (give or take), more than enough to plug into controller.

 

Only thing I could add is some buy at Harley dealers as, if something doesn't operate the way it should , they simply swap it out instead of you having to mail for a fix...

The two brands are interchangeable. I have Gerbing vest and Firstgear gloves. Don't really need anymore due to living in the South.

I have Gerbing jacket liner, pants & gloves. Its like riding in a toaster oven ! Next on the list is to get the heated sox to complete the set. I plan to go for a ride today in low to mid 30° weather.

 

Harley gear was Gerbing but i'm pretty sure they have switched to another brand now. I went to the HD dealer for a cord to use just the gloves and they had gear from a different supplier that uses a different plug style.

If $$ is an issue, then simple ski pants are a ton warmer that chaps. I switched to them several years ago and they are sufficient from the high 20's up. Also, light weight and compact well for the trunk.

Pick up a pair at a sporting goods (or even some Walmarts) for $60 or less. Mine have a felt material between the ankle areas that protects from pipe burn.
