cheny Posted November 30, 2014 #1 Posted November 30, 2014 Hi all I am in the proses of changing the coolant on my 08 venture. Was doing real good. Removed the reservoir emptied that. Drained the radiator. Then bang, the water pump. Where is it? Reading the read only tech it sounds like it is be hind the right front exhaust. Ended up taking the whole exhaust off still cant find that damn thing. Can some one help. Thanks cheny wchenevert@gmail.com
M61A1MECH Posted November 30, 2014 #2 Posted November 30, 2014 There is a small round cover on the right side of the motor towards the front, I believe it has YAMAHA embossed on it. The water pump is behind that. There is no need to open the water pump during coolant change, only need to pull the drain plug on the water pump. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the water housing when you pull that you will find some additional coolant in there. It is very hard to remove that plug with the exhaust in place.
aharbi Posted December 1, 2014 #3 Posted December 1, 2014 Do a search on "coolant change" You'll get some good posts, thoughts on how it's done. I leave the pipes alone and use a serpentine belt wrench and ground down a cheap Harbor Freight 17mm socket to reach it. Can't tourq it but tighten it snug works for me for years. ps. you only get a cup of coolant out of the waterpump, so if you change it often may not be enough to worry about.
djh3 Posted December 1, 2014 #4 Posted December 1, 2014 I didnt even do that when I did the valves and changed fluid on mine. I drained what I could and flushed it with clear water and I think it was vinegar solution. then clear water and drained refill with coolant.
cheny Posted December 1, 2014 Author #5 Posted December 1, 2014 Thanks every one. After my brain woke up I found it.
