Freebird Posted November 29, 2014 #1 Posted November 29, 2014 Somebody posted yesterday that they almost missed a post due to having to wade through all the Ebay stuff. That surprised me because I have them globally disabled from showing up in new posts and What's New. Are they still showing up for you?
JMC Posted November 29, 2014 #3 Posted November 29, 2014 Not here either. Thanks for all the time you put in to make this site great.
relic Posted November 29, 2014 #4 Posted November 29, 2014 Just learning to navigate the new site but it looks to me I only get them in the articles tab and not in forums. Ok with me. Spoke too fast as I just went to new posts in forums tab and it is full of ebay listings?
Freebird Posted November 29, 2014 Author #5 Posted November 29, 2014 They are supposed to be at the bottom of the articles page. They are also in a dedicated forum but should not be showing up when you click "New Posts" or "What's New".
vzuden Posted November 29, 2014 #6 Posted November 29, 2014 When searching for a topic the eBay listings show up in the search result
Freebird Posted November 29, 2014 Author #7 Posted November 29, 2014 If you are talking about the search box at the upper right, I can see where that would happen. I don't know if there is any way around that. Sorry.
sanderjack Posted November 29, 2014 #8 Posted November 29, 2014 When I go to New Posts, they show up in the list. Is there a way to sort them to the bottom so that I can read the important stuff first?
Freebird Posted November 29, 2014 Author #9 Posted November 29, 2014 I don't understand that at all. Where are you talking about? The new posts link on the left end of the lower navigation bar at the top? They should not be there at all. I don't see a single one. Now I'm talking about the forum Ebay Links, NOT the forum Links to classifieds and etc. If you want that one turned off, you need to go to your Settings, General Settings and select it to be ignored.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted November 30, 2014 #11 Posted November 30, 2014 I am not getting them in New Posts anymore.... I was proud of myself I thought I had turned them off all by my self. RATS On the Articles page I see them all in a box labeled RSS
Freebird Posted November 30, 2014 Author #12 Posted November 30, 2014 They are supposed to show up in the RSS box on the Articles page. That is correct. That is a place that if you don't want to look at them, you don't have to.
relic Posted November 30, 2014 #13 Posted November 30, 2014 Just went to settings and highlighted ignore Ebay listings and they are no longer showing up. Thanks Don. Going to take a while to learn all this. I am not as sharp as I was once anymore. ha
Freebird Posted November 30, 2014 Author #14 Posted November 30, 2014 Yea, I'm looking at it now. I had installed a modification that was supposed to globally disable them but it's not working. Those of you who are not seeing them have then disabled in your profiles. Until I figure out the issue with the global mod, you are going to have to turn them off manually if you want them to go away. It's very easy. Just go to "Settings" at the upper right of the forum. Scroll down until you see "General Settings" in the left menu. Click on that. Scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see where you can disable forums that you don't want showing up in "New Posts". NOTE: There are TWO Ebay related forums. One says "Links to Classifieds, Ebay and Craigslist". That one just shows ads that you post in our own classifieds or links that members manually put there. Typically not that many and most people don't disable it. You can if you want to though. The main one is simply called Ebay Listiings. That is the one that you really want to exclude. I checked the profile of Illinois who said he was still seeing them. He had checked the wrong one. I corrected it but honestly don't have time to do it for every member. That is why I am trying to get the global option to work.
Freebird Posted November 30, 2014 Author #15 Posted November 30, 2014 OK...I THINK I have been successful in removing them from New Posts, New Activity, Unanswered Threads, etc. I hope so.
Illinois Posted December 1, 2014 #17 Posted December 1, 2014 I checked the profile of Illinois who said he was still seeing them. He had checked the wrong one. I corrected it but honestly don't have time to do it for every member. The shame of it all, exposed for the computer putz that I am. Appreciate the help.
