spear Posted November 22, 2014 #1 Posted November 22, 2014 Hey you folks State-side. It's just after 6pm Saturday night down under, and I'm watching the news on the idiot box. I can't believe how cold it is in some parts of the good ol' USofA. Thinking of those who are shivering, whilst I put up with 100+ degF day in and day out. But for what it's worth, I wouldn't swap you for quids. Stay safe my friends.
awsmsrv Posted November 22, 2014 #2 Posted November 22, 2014 Yeah, remember when they were talking about another ice age back in the '70s? Sheesh. Of course, now they've changed it to "climate change". Doesn't the climate change every day? every week? every month? every year? Call me cynical, but, I don't believe any of it.
uncledj Posted November 22, 2014 #3 Posted November 22, 2014 It's a bunch of hooey. If you don't jump on the global warming bandwagon, you're called a knuckle dragging denier.
djh3 Posted November 22, 2014 #4 Posted November 22, 2014 Perfectly fine down here in Fla. Went for a 200 mile ride Thur. It was about 62 when I left the house and stayed in the low 70's all day.
bongobobny Posted November 22, 2014 #5 Posted November 22, 2014 I got your Global warming in my Global shorts...
Bubber Posted November 22, 2014 #6 Posted November 22, 2014 I got your Global warming in my Global shorts... Way to much information Bob!
uncledj Posted November 22, 2014 #7 Posted November 22, 2014 I got your Global warming in my Global shorts... I've heard that in those situations, it's best to wear loose fitting underwear. Hope this helps:backinmyday:
MikeWa Posted November 22, 2014 #8 Posted November 22, 2014 Say. Wasn't there an Ice Age some time ago? You know. With glaciers and all that stuff. Where did it go? Was it's demise caused by human pollution? Or, is it coming back? Hmmmm. Mike

cowpuc Posted November 23, 2014 #11 Posted November 23, 2014 Hey you folks State-side. It's just after 6pm Saturday night down under, and I'm watching the news on the idiot box. But for what it's worth, I wouldn't swap you for quids. Stay safe my friends. Hmmmm,,, gotta ask ya Spear,, what in tarnation is a "quid".... Hung around with Aussie Annie n Quickstep some but obviously,, not enough...
spear Posted November 23, 2014 Author #12 Posted November 23, 2014 Sorry 'puc. A quid is a pound, as in the currency. £. Fairly common expression down under. Most common one is "wouldn't be dead for quids" which means you're enjoying life too much to die and no amount of money will make you change your mind. Australia was under the influence of Mother England for too damned long, and up until 14 February 1966 we had pounds, shillings and pence. Very quickly and efficiently went to dollars and cents, whereby £1 = $2. Or to put it colloquially, a quid bought you two dollars. And FWIW we no longer have copper coins. Got rid of 1c and 2c coins. Smallest we have is the 5c. No 'quarters'. Coins are 5, 10, 20, 50 cents as well as $1 and $2. Notes are $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100. $1 and $2 notes were phased out when the $1 and $2 coins were introduced. It was interesting in the early days when we had the coppers, no $1 or $2 coins and no $100 note - if you had one of each coin and note you had $88:88c. Would that make you a lucky Chinaman? Australia is the world leader in bank note production, and 'exports' its technology to other countries that want to combat forgery and counterfeits. Sorry for the drawn out response, but you ask me a question and I don't half answer it. :-)
spear Posted November 23, 2014 Author #13 Posted November 23, 2014 And now, for today's weather report..... and when it says "Feels like 48.2" they're not wrong. Thats just shy of 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Sorry for the drawn out response, but you ask me a question and I don't half answer it. :-) :clap2: THANK YOU MATE (hope that is proper Aussie talk) for the detail in your explanation - I appreciate it!! Cause of kind people like you,, an old like me can learn something new around this place everyday!! One last little question for ya Spear,, is that "£" symbol something you have on your keyboard? I had to copy/paste it from your posting - I have a "$" sign on my keyboard and am curious if your Aussie board is different? I KNOW I am a pest,, you are lucky we are just "cyber" family members.. I about drove Annie crazy having her say "that's not a knife,, this is a knife" (like Crocodile Dundee) over and over again:Laugh:....
cowpuc Posted November 23, 2014 #15 Posted November 23, 2014 And now, for today's weather report..... and when it says "Feels like 48.2" they're not wrong. Thats just shy of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. As long as the humidity is low,, those kinda temps are just about perfect biking for me.. I LOVE desert riding,, no shirt, pair of shorts, ol sweat soaked Harley hat, sunproof lip protector on the lips - nose - ear tips - forehead.. Until ya have to stop,, its like heaven,,, its when ya gotta stop for gas or food that its like that other place Toss in 70% humidy and I am done at 100!!! Now Tip,, she's got that light skin Dutch blood thing going on (my great great grandfather was 100% American Indian),, she has to do that sticky sun screen thing BUT,, she still LOVES the desert riding too!!
spear Posted November 23, 2014 Author #16 Posted November 23, 2014 Hey 'puc. The £ symbol is a standard on my iPad, like $ € and ¥. I think I formatted it to the English (British) system so my spelling would be correct. i.e. Colour, not color etc. :-)
