A couple of questions:

1. I'm 6' and, if I sit up straight, I can see over the stock shield. With the XXL I've Heard tell of people, shorter than I, being able to see over the XXL. Is there any truth to this? What are your experiences?

2. Does the air move water up and off the Clearview shield better than on the stock? This is also something that I've heard. Some say that the Clearview has more rake to it which makes the water push off of it better in the rain. Thoughts and comments.

Thanks all.

Gibvel-

I have the Clearview windshield (wider and taller version) and it does move the air over and around better in my opinion. I also get the vent which helps with air backwash.

I'm 5' 11" (and settling) and I look through the windshield while driving but can force myself to sit up tall and see over it if necessary. I have done this during rain etc.

My wife a noticed less helmet buffeting too.

Dave,

Is that for your Venture Royal? I just sold my VR and didn't just now took that out of my CP.

I'm looking for that info on the RSV that I still have.

Sounds like their fairly similar though, height wise.

Thanks

Unfortunately I won't be able to give you a definite answer for about 6 weeks. I just ordered the XXL for mine. I sit just a bit over 6' and originally put the med clearview on my RSV but when I sat normal to ride the top of the shield sat directly in the middle of my line of site. Drove me nuts. I ended up riding slouched all the time and would give myself a back ache. If I sat up tall I could see over the windshield but lets face it, that's an uncomfortable position for long hauls. Based on that I do not feel that when I get the XXL on, which is 3.5" taller than the med, I will be looking over it. I think I'll be looking thru it unless I really sit up tall. Just my thoughts on it.

As for water movement, it worked great. No more sheets sitting in the middle of the shield. As soon as I got moving it seemed to flow the water to the edges and I hadn't even applied rain X yet.

Cool WIKD!! That bit about the water movement is very informative. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. That it moved the water even without rain-X.

I still have the OEM sheild, am 6ft. tall and there is no way I can even come close to seeing over that sheild.... I am planning on getting the XXL Clearveiw soon, as far as rain goes, thats not a big problem, but the Fog is a killer!!! Hope the CV XXL takes care of this problem..

I think I'm, kind of, Long waisted, Kbay. I do have to stretch quite a bit to see over though but I can still see over it. Wouldn't want to ride for any length of time sitting like that though.

I'm still deciding between the XL and the XXL myself so, hopefully I'll be ordering one or the other here soon as well.

Mark I Have XXL Clearview with Vent. I'm 6' and Most of Time I look trough shild. doesent bother me at all. Rain if flying over shild , but some drops are go just over edge. In heavy rain i have rug between my croch and wipe top 4" of shield, if rain drops buid up badly.Cleaning Windshild with plastex help for about 3 hours. Wind protection is way better, as well my wife doesent have any helmet bufering, and she is 5' 11". Thats cuz clearview is curved on top and direct wind overhead. If you planing to buy one go with vent, and light smoke color. Vent is great for summer, just keep your mouth close, if you dont like to eat flys :rotf::rotf:

This Pic is to see how much tint is light smoke, as well you may recognize homeland.

What helped me with the decision was the wife. She always says she loves the bike but gets a bit too much wind. When talking to John at Clearview, who by the way is a top notch guy in my book, he stated that going to the XXL would improve or solve that problem. So hopefully she'll be a little more comfortable.

Yeah, Dan, those are all options I was going to go for. Thanks for the heads up about the flies though...although I do wear a full face. :Bunny:

Thanks for the info guys.

One nice thing is, I may not have to pay for shipping if I want to run down and get it. :whistling: :thumbsup2:

One other question. I understand that there's a little "flip" up at the very top of the shield. If you look through the shield, at that point, is there any optical distortion that would cause any problems?

Thanks for the pic Dan. That does give a good representation of the tint on the shield and a good view of how it looks from behind. That picture may have answered the post I just posted about the curve at the top being an optical distortion.

Oh, look, you beat me to it again. You're just quick like a bunny, aren't you!! :rotf:

I wouldn't compare the sizes of the clearview with the stock RSV shield as far as inches goes. The clearview leans back at a greater angle. Case in point if you looked at my clearview shield sitting next to a bike with the stock shield on it you would swear it was much shorter when in fact it's only 1/2 inch shorter. I am 6' and sitting up and craning my neck I can see over the stock shield, looking through my clearview, well actually looking over my clearview is easy because I can do it in my normal riding position, in fact the top of the shield is about even with the bottom of my nose. I don't know which one I have on, but I know it's not the XXL because Beer30 has one and there is a difference between the two shields. If I remember correctly the guy who bought this shield said it was a medium.

As far as shedding water it does fairly well once you get above 45MPH. Anything below that and it's pretty much the same as the stock.

I am 6'2" and have the XXL windshield. I can look over it if I stretch up, but it is a stretch. I have ordered the XL to see if it works better for me - I would like to look just over the top of the shield. But the deciding factor will be if the XL still offers the protection for the passenger. My wife says the XXL does an excellent job of protecting her from buffeting.

Hey Vance,

I'm 6'2" as well. I can see over the stock windshield by just sitting more upright. Did you think the XXL was taller than stock? I ask this because I want to get the clearview but am torn between the XL and the XXL.

I thought all the 2nd Gen's had the same stock height windshield. You could replace them with different Yamaha ones but from the factory don't they all come with the same size?

I'm 6-5, long waisted, and look right thru the stock windshield. Are you sitting on the passenger seat? I, too, am interested in the properties of the Clearview. The rain runoff and the vent seem especially intriguing. Do tell, all. Thanks.

You are right. By stock, I mean OE (original equipment). It has Yamaha stamped on the shield. I have one of the taller shields, not the medium size.

As far as the vent goes, I had one on the Goldwing I owned, and it was fantastic for getting a little "breeze" behind the windshield where a dead-air space normally exists. Goes a long way to give you a little cooling when traveling down the road. Just be advised that if it passes air, it also passes bugs. Or parts of bugs. But that's the trade off. I thought so much of it that I installed one in the 'original' shield, and got one for the Clearview Shield. Hope this answers your question.
