cowpuc Posted November 9, 2014 #1 Posted November 9, 2014 Following the pathway of many others (must be something we drank over the summer), I found out some pretty interesting stuff yesterday.. A while back I wrote a thread about weird smells in my nose, headaches, mental confusion.. Went to the doctor, had a CT Scan and ended up on some high dosages of anti-biotics.. That helped but the symptoms came back.. Like Buddy is doing with his knee, I decided to get a second opinion.. This new Dr. immediately sent me to a specialist (ENT).. My father's funeral (thanks again for ALL the support folks) ended up being on the day I was suppose to be at the ENT, had to change appointments but THANKFULLY they showed compassion and got me right in afterwards.. This is where the story really gets crazy.. This ENT numbs my nose and runs a camera up into my sinus cavity,, explains to me that this "sack" (as seen on a computer screen - pretty cool really) hanging in my sinus cavity is a "polyp", says it is kinda different that I only have one big one on one side.. Then he asked me if the drippage from my nose tastes salty:confused24:.. I smile and say,, yea,, as a matter of fact it does... As he is removing this camera from my nose he is explaining to me that he thinks I my be leaking brain fluid (used a medical name like Ceribal something) into my sinus cavity.. I stared at him to see if he was kidding:detective:,, apparently these ENT guys dont joke much (my daughter here at home laughed when I told her and said "that explains alot" = kids:whistling:).. I am now scheduled for an MRI in search of a crack in the bottom of my skull by which brain fluid can enter the sinus cavity.. The ENT will do no surgery repair work until he knows exactly whats going on BUT, I am also scheduled for blood tests and heart stress tests and all that stuff now too - exactly the kinda stuff they put me thru before I had back surgery back in 03 so I gotta hunch something tricky is in the works.... I probably should be deeply concerned (and I am) but I am finding myself actually feeling better just KNOWING that headway is being made (like Flyingfools case) - FINALLY!! On a side note,, being somewhat of an optimist, ok - maybe a little egocentric too,, it amazes me that I can have a leaky brain and still be smarter than a lot of folks I know,,, go figure:rotf:.. Appreciate all thoughts and prayers anyone can muster for this ol pest!! THANKS GANG!! On another side note,,, anyone else notice how many of us are going thru ailments at this time?? I honestly think maybe we should all go to Australia or somewhere really really warm, find us some nice warm white sand and bury our hurting bodies in it, leave just our heads sticking out..... PICK THE SPOT AT HIGH TIDE OF COURSE:stickinouttounge:
CMCOFFEY Posted November 9, 2014 #2 Posted November 9, 2014 I have heard that some times Dogs and owners look alike. But this might be taking it a little far with you and tweeks. Both of you look like you have covered a few miles, both have a big personality that everybody can see, you both have the love of a very special Woman. You both don't have to be leaking important fluids. Tell your mechanic he needs to get you leak free by next riding season. hate that you have all this happening, but glad you found the leak before the motor blew...I'll be praying for a speedy recovery and that they patch you up better than you patched tweeks' exhaust.
oldgoat Posted November 9, 2014 #3 Posted November 9, 2014 heal up listen to the docs but most of all take care I might have left here soon. but maybe I will see you on the road some where
SilvrT Posted November 9, 2014 #4 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) I heard that when brain fluid leaks out, it's just your body making room for all the "smarts"! Hope all goes well for ya bro! Edited November 9, 2014 by SilvrT
MiCarl Posted November 9, 2014 #5 Posted November 9, 2014 Maybe an o-ring that has shrunk with age, like a 1st gen cooling system? I hope what you've been smelling isn't burnt brain fluid, that would indicate an overhaul! Good luck friend!
stickhandle2 Posted November 9, 2014 #6 Posted November 9, 2014 Hey Puc, leaking brain fluid, it is the only way to bring you back to brain levels of the rest of us. You have a great family there with you and another one here, my Dad has always told me the strongest thing we have is our believing in our selves...... Get that leak fixed and carry on sir. Mike
Oldodge Posted November 9, 2014 #7 Posted November 9, 2014 When they fix that leak I bet you can top it off with Seafoam! Seriously, take care and we will be praying for you. I know you have a great support system at home too.
yamagrl Posted November 9, 2014 #8 Posted November 9, 2014 Leaky brain fluid...hmmm... I know what it is! :doh:You're part Harley Davidson! Yep, you better follow the "mechanics" instructions. Wishing you well. H
Marcarl Posted November 9, 2014 #9 Posted November 9, 2014 Time to drink more beer. I here tell that beer helps to replace brain cells somehow, and it kind of sounds like you might be in that category. The other thought is that if you could catch that fluid we might be able to use it for transfusion. There are some that could use an upgrade, even though it might not be much. The best to ya Puc, and prayers on the way for ya
rickardracing Posted November 9, 2014 #10 Posted November 9, 2014 Wishing you well my friend. Keep us informed of whats going on. Randy
XV1100SE Posted November 9, 2014 #12 Posted November 9, 2014 Glad you got an ENT that was able to diagnose your condition. I have a friend at work who had problems five years ago and after a couple biopsies on his brain still has no answers. Originally he was told he had six months to live. I can't imagine what he has gone thru the past five years. Thankfully he was able to come back to work as his symptoms stabilized. In your case, hope they find your leak and can plug it without being too invasive. As mentioned, you have friends here including those like me who have never met you.
rbig1 Posted November 9, 2014 #13 Posted November 9, 2014 hope thing go well. there is quite a few people on here that I have not meet. but feel like I relate to. and want to meet. and need some wisdom weather actual or fun. both work for me. so you and the snow god have my full wishes and others. get well keep riding:rain2: be safe
Chaharly Posted November 9, 2014 #14 Posted November 9, 2014 Leaking brain fluid you say? If you've got an open spout it might be time to start a miracle brain juice business. What do you say??!! That does however sound pretty intense though, and it seems like when it rains it pours. I hope everything works out for you buddy!
bongobobny Posted November 9, 2014 #15 Posted November 9, 2014 Are your eyes working OK? It might be blinker fluid you are losing! Do what you are told and for now just stand on your head to keep the fluid in. Keep us posted on the progress, and of course we have plenty of prayers for you. Being low on brain fluid explains a lot...
habfan Posted November 9, 2014 #16 Posted November 9, 2014 Hey Puc! All kidding aside about the leaky brain and all. I'm glad to hear that you've gotten a second opinion. My wife's aunt developed the same problem 15 years ago, they did a little surgery through her nose and took care of it.she was much better after that.I remember thinking at the time "you've got to be kidding, how can you be leaking brain fluid" apparently it's fairly common. Sounds to me that the ENT is on the ball on this one and doing all the right things needed to take care of it. I'm sure this will be resolved quickly and you'll be back to that same Ol'Puc in no time at all..Good luck.. We'll be thinking about you. Dan
Gary N. Posted November 9, 2014 #17 Posted November 9, 2014 Wow! Be careful blowing your nose Scott. You don't want to be blowing your brains out. Thinking good thoughts for you buddy.
Squidley Posted November 9, 2014 #18 Posted November 9, 2014 Atleast you have a reasonable explanation to pursue, I wish you all the best in your diagnosis and treatment of this Puc.
Flyinfool Posted November 9, 2014 #19 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) Well since we all can not travel to a place covered in white sand, I'll do my best to at least make everything white......... Hey 50% is better than nuttin....... I'm glad that you found a road to follow toward getting better, and as much as I know how much you like to, don't take too many detours off of this new road to travel. You really do want to get to this destination as quick as possible. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Edited November 9, 2014 by Flyinfool Fat fingers
eagleeye Posted November 9, 2014 #20 Posted November 9, 2014 Leaking brain fluid--Just when you think that you have heard everything. Sometimes when you go to the doc, you have this feeling that your going to hear something that you don't want to hear, and then, there it is. But it's sure a lot better than sticking you head in the sand. That fixes nothing. I hope they take good care of you and get you fixed up real soon. Your on the right path for sure.
Dale124 Posted November 9, 2014 #21 Posted November 9, 2014 I'm glad to hear you are staying positive about this, Puc. I hope all goes well for you and the docs get this fixed ASAP. Until we meet again, Dale.
Carbon_One Posted November 9, 2014 #22 Posted November 9, 2014 Well Puc ole buddy I can't add much if anything to what others here have already said. Just gonna say I got you covered with some prayers and well wishes for you getting fixed up and back to your old self again. Let us know how things go with this new path your on. Larry
Venturous Randy Posted November 9, 2014 #23 Posted November 9, 2014 Yep, Seafoam is not a good idea, but how about JB Weld? It really is amazing what can be diagnosed and what can be fixed today. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers and I feel that you will get this behind you and you will get this fixed. Randy & Linda
Yammer Dan Posted November 9, 2014 #24 Posted November 9, 2014 A little slow but I'm here Puc. Must have something to do with that 2nd Gen I got..... We seem to have a bunch of lingering ails here. I been fighting that fall over the hill since on my way home from B2Dads in Was it May?? They claim nothing is broke but I'm still having fits with it. Maybe I need that 2nd opinion. Heal quickly man and listen to the docs. Maybe ya could save some of that stuff for the young'uns, they seem to be a little short....
Huggy Posted November 9, 2014 #25 Posted November 9, 2014 I'm thinking he should mix some STOP LEAK in some Crown Royal, about a gallon of CR, and that should take care of the problem!!!!!
