BigLenny Posted November 7, 2014 #1 Posted November 7, 2014 Hey Friends, I am looking for new ideas for our family to spend a week together. Let me set the stage. Our 3 kids are grown and gone from the home (Thank God), They are 27, 29, and 31 yrs old. Our 31 yr old son is married and he and my daughter in law have our only grandchild, a 6 year old wonderful bundle of life who's name is Maddox. He's my buddy. Anyway, thats another story. LOL. My daughter is a school teacher and lives 3 hours away. My 27 year old son rents a house with a couple buddys and he is finishing up college. So, now that our kids are grown and gone and have their own busy lives, we don't get to gather as a complete family near as often as we would like. Usually during birthdays, and major holidays, with an occasional weekend here or there. We do live close to our grandson so we get to see him regularly. So, for about the last 5-6 years my wife and I in an effort to spend quality time with our complete family, we have paid for a 4-5 bedroom house on the beach on the Redneck Riviera (Gulf Coast), and our whole family stays there for a week during the summer. It is always a great time of hanging out on the beach, eating great meals, going into town and shopping, riding go carts, playing mini golf, shopping, yada yada yada. Here's the delima. We are getting kinda bored with going to the same location every year and doing the same things. We have great interest in experiencing other areas of our beautiful country. It would have to be family oriented. Fun for all ages. Relaxing but have fun things close to do. You folks know the drill. So, I'm looking for you all to bring me some suggestions. Go deep into your wealth of vacation knowledge and sock it to me. If ya'll need more info from me to make suggestions just let know. Thanks so much, BL
awsmsrv Posted November 7, 2014 #2 Posted November 7, 2014 How about a cruise ship? I never thought much about them until I went on one. Great way to go.
Flyinfool Posted November 7, 2014 #3 Posted November 7, 2014 How about something really different that you may have never done. Head north, up here to play in the SNOW. You can go for some snow skiing, tobogganing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc. Then sitting around a nice cozy fireplace having family time together.

Yea that,,,,, I know a guy who can even supply you with alllllllllllllllllll the snow you can haul back to Little Rock as a momento too - he would probably even ship it air mail for free if you asked him real nice!! Big world out there Lenny,,, first thing that popped into my mind was renting a great big diesel motor home for a week, pack that puppy up with goodies, head up into Michigan and drive the west coast up to the Mackinaw Bridge (all kinds of cool towns along the way to play in, plenty of State Parks on the Lake Shore), stop in Mackinaw City - ferry over to the Island, tour the U.P. and go home thru Wisconsin.. A National Park trip with a Motorhome would be another one unless you have to go during "tourist season" - following lines of traffic thru Yellow Stone at 2 miles an hour would get pretty boring.. It would be really fun to do a family trip thru South Rim Grand Canyon, around thru Page Az and over to the North Rim during the off season.. Load em all up and go do the International Rally, not far away, sounds like there is lots to do down there in Misery AND you get to introduce your kids to their extended family from VR, that Maddox would love it - be just like takin em to the zoo:stickpoke:!!
djh3 Posted November 8, 2014 #5 Posted November 8, 2014 Some nice deals on large cabins up in North Carolina. Some have lofts with sleeping quarters, Pool tables and hot tubs. Take a day trip over to Marrie Valley or Ashville and the Biltmore Estate.
bongobobny Posted November 8, 2014 #7 Posted November 8, 2014 Head to the Southwest and see the Grand Canyon and other sites in the area...
