ENG2242 Posted October 27, 2014 #1 Posted October 27, 2014 New E3s from Jake are coming. Should I have my mechanic check or perform any maintenance with the wheels off, other than brakes? Thanks David
XV1100SE Posted October 27, 2014 #2 Posted October 27, 2014 Make sure that when the rear wheel is off they lube the splines. Good time to replace rear gear oil if it hasn't been done in a while.
EtRider Posted October 27, 2014 #3 Posted October 27, 2014 ENG2242- I see you have a 2013. How many miles did you get out of the tires?
eusa1 Posted October 27, 2014 #4 Posted October 27, 2014 take the center hub out of the rear wheel and clean the rust from the splines and lubricate and reassemble, have him index and put back into same hub position:whistling:
Oldodge Posted October 27, 2014 #5 Posted October 27, 2014 ENG2242- I see you have a 2013. How many miles did you get out of the tires? I am curious too. How many miles did they last? I just put an E3 rear on my 2013. I got just over 11,100 mi. on the original 404. Front will be changed out this winter. I will use it up this fall. Maybe another 1k at most. Front tire didn't seem to have very deep tread even when new.

That is real good mileage for the D404 on the rear. I run nothing but D404 and 11-12k on front is great.
ENG2242 Posted October 27, 2014 Author #7 Posted October 27, 2014 I am at 9100 with probably 1500 left. The only complaint is they track grooves in the road.
XV1100SE Posted October 27, 2014 #8 Posted October 27, 2014 From posts, the 404's will last 10-12,000 miles. The alternate OEM tires are Bridgestones and you might get a little more than the 404's but their handling isn't very good. You'll find a noticable improvement if you go E3's front and rear.
Oldodge Posted October 28, 2014 #9 Posted October 28, 2014 I lubed the hub and swapped the brake pads side for side in the caliper. Inner pad was worn much more than the outer. First impression of the E3 is positive but I will know more when I get the new front on as well. Also used 2 ounces of Dyna beads in the rear tire. A first for me.
