I have the 1988 Venture Royale with the radio, but cant tune it to FM or to any decimal point stations (example: 94.5, 105.6 can't be tuned but can tune only to whole numbers such as 89 or 1120, etc.) can anyone explain to me how to tune the decimal point stations in and how to get FM? When I push the FM button, a crackle sound occurs, but the radio stays on AM. Help!!

Thanks,

when i bought my 86 radio was the same way. The previous owner tried to fix it but couldnt so he bought a a portable CD player with a radio and a cassette adapter. It plays pretty good even into out headsets. And, with the adapter, you can also play an MP3player through it as well. hope that helps.

The radio should in fact tune to any station. And on a well functioning tuner, it will, especially when in 'SEEK' mode. Although it doesn't sound like this is your problem, if the antenna lead is corroded at the antenna base, or the matching box, or at the tuner, the tuner may not be finding a strong enough signal to lock onto a station.

The problem seems to be, in your case, moisture or debris or corrosion in the station select buttons or probably in the multi-pin connector beneath the removable audio unit.

Check all the connector pins (male AND female) for corrosion and also for accurate engagement.

Your only tuning to whole numbers means you are still in AM and as long as you are in AM that's all you will get. The seek button is on the left handlebar control. The switch to go from AM to FM sounds like it is corroded. Go to radio shack amd get a can of electronic tuner cleaner. It wont harm plastic and you can spray it down the switch and work it several times. If that doesn't work then you will have to take the face off the radio and spray directly on the switch and on any other switches that look iffy. It has been too long since I did this but it is easy. Just take the radio out of the fairing and look it over and you should see the screws to take it apart. In the end if that proves too much for you send it to Sierra Electronics. They will fix it for $100 (check with them to be sure) and for another $100 add a cord to plug in an mp3 player.
