I realize this question is not for me, but I've ridden the route and recommend going north to south as everything is on your right side of the highway.

Which ever way they decide is best, you can turn around and ride it back and have a completely new experience :rotf::cool10::cool10:

UT,, we got twisted around out there a couple years ago,, found a pathway across from Calistoga Ca to the PCH.. A very narrow (but paved), twisty, off cambered roadway called "Skaggs Creek Road" winds thru the Red Woods and is unbelievable enough that it is one of Tips and my favorite roads in the country..

If you were on the PCH and came to (memory here,,,) a little place called "Stewarts Point",,, this is where Skaggs Creek Road comes in.. You WILL be missing something very very special if you dont at least ride as much of Skaggs as possible (IMHO of course..).:backinmyday:

Totally agree!

I've also ridden it a few times (both ways) and it's much better going south simply because you can pull off much easier.

Great information. I guess I need to ask the question better.

I'm looking to go I80 to the coast and then go on the PCH either North or South and then return back home via I80.

Hope that makes getter sense.

Indeed UT,, that helps a lot!!

IMHO,, the PCH heading north out of Frisco is the way I would go.. Once ya get beyond Bodega Bay heading North, the traffic seems to cut way back, much more relaxed and the views are WOW.. You could ride the PCH up to the Oregon Border, you will get to see the Red Woods National Park (when up there take time to check out the old WW2 Surveilance spots - fake "farm" houses - gotta ride just a little gravel but WELL worth the site), drop back to Stewarts Point on the PCH, get on Skaggs Creek Rd. over to 101, pick your way back to 80 across Napa Valley.. I think it was Calistago that had geysers named Old Faithful, Napa Valley is FULL of really cool small town spots that are throw backs from the 60's (a REAL step back in time),, PLUS - after riding the RWNP and than riding Skagg Creek Rd, I bet you will second my motion that the Skaggs Creek Rd. ride should be a National Park in and of itself - its that awesome!!

Ya know,, thinking about it here,,, we are tent campers and also found many more "off the radar" camping spots north of Bodega Bay... We spent a night right off the parking lot at the Stewarts Point Store one time, no problem - much harder to pull off from Bodega and south.. On the other hand,, it seems like we passed a LOT more motel stuff along the PCH from Bodega headed south... Maybe I am way off with that comment and one of our more knowledgeable PCH West Coast members will correct me,,, if so - LISTEN to em cause I really know very little about biking and moteling....

Finally back on and see this post. So not ignoring you Dave. If you want to see green then turn north. South has some beautiful vistas, but not many. North has some awesome country to see... :thumbsup2: MOF you could start out by going over the Golden Gate, and turning right at 299 to Susanville. I guess it all depends on how much time you'll have?? Let me know. If I'm up to it, I might ride it with you??

Either way works for me! We can even invite Vic and that other machine he got.LOL

How many tents with your yard hold?

I think he could hold the VW in his backyard.... lots of space there, unless its full of sailboats and bike parts cause the garage is full....:)

I talked to Vic about doing something next year and he sorta said he wanted to lay low and see which direction he wants to go... He finally giving up his Presidency of the local Star Rider group, and wants to relax a bit

Things have changed since you were here last time Brian. The back yard is full of trailers and sailboats. I think it's hit max density. Last time I checked there's 6 trailers camped out back there.... This whole thing has gotten away from me.. Time to retire... :backinmyday:
