Well at least Ice cream is not off the menu.:essen_018:

After meeting with the last Dr., the top half of my heart is not doing its thing. It is not dead like it would be in a heart attack, it just aint doing nuttin, just sittin there on top and going along for the ride.

Well it is the top half that tells the bottom half when to beat. so now the bottom half is not sure just when it is supposed to beat so it kind of just does a random thing.

Docs are hoping that the right drug will encourage the top half to start doing its thing again. Problem is there is a lot of drugs that might work, so it will be trial and error to find the right one and the right dosage. So for a while now the plan is to try something and every couple days back to the cardiologist to see if it helped. Hopefully they find the right one before one of the really BAD scenarios plays out.

I am still in some disbelief because I never had any hint of chest pain or other heart related symptoms, in other words I feel fine, and I am still trying to wrap my head around this and some of the realistic scenarios.

Before I was scared, now I am terrified.........

Even I am having a hard time coming up with smart ass comments about this.......

Dang Jeff,

Not the news that I was hoping for either. I hope the docs get you the right drugs ASAP to get this under control.

Best wishes for you,

Steve

Hey Jeff, sometimes there are things like this that come along and just jars us to our core. My pre-op EKG came back all funky so I had to do some scrambling to get to the bottom of it. Everything turned out fine and I'm on the mend from my surgery now. We'll all give you a pass on the snarky comments, but look forward to hearing them again soon. Take care, you're in our prayers.:080402gudl_prv:

Well the first drug they tried has helped. Not fixed it but made it less bad. They plan to increase the dosage next week after the surgery.

The cardiologist has cleared me for the original surgery to be done this coming Friday, On Halloween? If I see a grim reaper costume any where on Friday, I'm outa there......:bikersmilie:

Then next week they will start messing with the cardiac drugs. One of the first to be started will be some form of blood thinner / anti clotting. But they can not start that just before surgery, for the obvious reasons.

The doc was discussing some of the possible treatments for down the road.

One nice thing that did happen, You know how docs are always saying "well you know at your age............" or "you really should loose some weight......."

This time he started with "well since you are still so young and in really great shape" then explained that this opens up the play book for a lot of options that are very effective but can not be done on the old or the weak. There some of these options that can give a permanent cure with no need to be on drugs forever. :fingers-crossed-emo

He said that even though half of my heart is not working I still passed the stress test better than some people with everything working. I am cleared for anything I wish to do. If I feel like going for a 20 mile hike deer hunting he said go for it, just monitor my heart rate to keep it from getting to high.

So it is now starting to look like I may survive this, I could end up being around here and causing trouble for a long long time. :rasberry: Maybe I will even sleep tonight for a change.

Was he looking at his nurse when he said that?

Good news Jeff!

That's great news Jeff. I'm sure they'll find the right combo to work for you. See, you'll be around here aggravating folks for a long time to come!!:cool10:

The time is almost here.

I just finished my first of 2 wash downs.

I had to shower till I used up 2 full bars of special soap.

I did learn that 2 full bars of special soap will last just a little longer than my 50 gallon hot water heater. Burrrrrrrr.......

I have to do a repeat performance and use up another 2 full bars of special soap, just before I leave for hospital tomorrow morning.

I don't think I have ever been this clean in my whole life.......

They told me to get a good nights sleep, ya right, like that's gonna happen after they explained all the stuff that could go wrong.....

And then they bumped the time back to noon so I get to dwell on it a little longer.....

Yes I'm all wound up. The logical side of me says there is nothing to worry about, they do this all the time. But the engineer side of me forces me to look at and consider all known variables and worst case scenarios.:bang head::bang head:

Well I'm feeling much better now.

Done with the pain pills, just some discomfort left.

Go back to the the surgeon on Friday to see when he will release me back to work and having fun.

Today I went back to the cardiologist, He referred me to a more special specialist.

We shall see.

We are so glad it was caught in time, and that you are improving. Alan was a bit the same....no symptoms at all. Specialist just decided to send him to a heart surgeon for an assessment. Result: mechanical heart valve!!
