During my oil change I had a hint of gas during changing. They oil wasn't watery and still seemed to have plenty of slippery goodness. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. About 6 months ago the carbs were cleaned thoroughly but I didn't replace the needle seats or the needles. Float levels looked good? Wondering if I need to pull the carbs and check the float levels and needle seats again.

I would say yes. chances are one of the carbs may be over flowing and leaking gas into the the cylinder. But before you do take the air cleaner off and look for a wet carb. You could also try disconnecting the fuel supply line from the carbs and hang a container of gas higher than the carbs and run a fuel line from this container to the carbs. Watch for fuel leaking from the carbs into the cylinder. It may have to hang over night to see. Pull the spark plugs and see which cylinder starts filling up with gas. You can also perform this test on the bench with the carbs removed.

Here is the setup I use on the bench. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86821 A mighty vac and container such as used for bleeding brakes but set in pressure mode instead of vacuum mode also works. Pressurize to 2.5 - 3.0 lbs PSI.
