2006 RSTD Posted September 29, 2014 #1 Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks to the help of a few new friends on the forum I have collected the misc. parts and pcs to install my new to me trunk. The trunk I purchased was repainted a custom white which I was hoping would match the color of my bike...but too far off to let it go. My bike is what I have been calling/heard called "pearl white"....how can I confirm this? And where do I start looking for a matching paint? Can I just go to any auto parts store that sells paint??? And how much do you think it will take to paint a large size trunk? (I may just go ahead and get enough to paint a fairing also...probably do it soon) Thanks much, Phil
djh3 Posted September 29, 2014 #4 Posted September 29, 2014 Unfortunately for motorcycles its a monopoly. Colorite is the ONLY supplier. And they are not cheap. found this place. Depending on how much you need to paint. A spray bomb is $60.You might try this place.
helmet012001 Posted October 5, 2014 #5 Posted October 5, 2014 I went to my local sams auto supply and painted my batwing that color. Soooo close to perfect and wayyy cheaper.
FuzzyRSTD Posted October 6, 2014 #6 Posted October 6, 2014 I went to a place that has one of those scanner things to match the paint. It was OK, but I would buy the paint direct from Yamaha for the money. You know you should be getting the correct color there. My first experience though. I had a trunk painted. The price was no different in the end.
Bodaggit23 Posted January 3, 2015 #7 Posted January 3, 2015 I had a negative experience with Colorite, as in complete waste of money. The color code for my bike matched the code on their website but I still received the wrong color. I spent top dollar for the paint from a reputable company that many people recommended, so I assumed I didn't need to open the cans and check the color when it arrived. MY MISTAKE. The guy that painted my bike didn't check the color either, he just started painting so I'm out $200 for two half pints of paint. Moral: If you do choose Colorite, open the cans and check the color(s) as soon as you get it/them.
