I am, I am and have been since 2001, I am VP for the Orlando Chapter and a member of the Melbourne chapter, now that I have a Goldwing, I am not sure what I will do when renewal time comes around.

The return on investment here at VR is much better than at STAR.

I ride more with STAR members, but the technical support here is much better.

Cant add much to the statistical side for ya ALW but gotta say,,, I bumped into a bunch of them there Star Rider folks out on the west coast (VentureWest Rally) this last summer and they were really great people.. Why there was even a young Lady in that Star bunch who I swear, never shuts her bike off and never sleeps!!:cool10: And her bike was REALLY tricked out!! Point being,, they definitely had the passion for motorcycling and really were great people!! :bighug:

Interesting point,, I was chatting with one of them Star Riders about one of the most awesome places Tip and I have ridden,, a little no-name road called "Skaggs Creek Road" (should be a national park in itself) out in California and, come to find out,, she was very familiar with it.. Out of all the people I have mentioned that road to, she was the first that had even heard of it,,, pretty cool really!!! :backinmyday:

Not me. I got this thing about rules......:whistling:

ME too Dan... Vic 'Lone Eagle' is the Pres of the Contra Costa chapter, and I've given it some thought, but it's too far away. The local Sacramento chapter has some pretty strict rules on do's and don't's, so they're out too. Too independent I guess.. ??

I never heard about the road either Puc...and it's in my back yard. But.... after Googling it, it looks like a great ride. Gonna put it on my bucket list. After playing with Google Maps a bit it looks like a great weekender. Overnighting in Ft Bragg and back to Sac via Clear Lake.... Thanks for bringing it up... http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/1306/California/Skaggs-Spring-Rd.html

If I remember correctly my wife and I had lunch in Stewarts Point while running up Hwy 1 way back when....

When I got my Venture I tried to join the Star chapter in Victoria BC. It was difficult to join and when I finally did I was thoroughly snubbed as the Venture was not really a Star. I was not allowed to post on their web site. I quit.

Sailor: Are you sure it was STAR (Star Touring and Riding) because the Venture certainly is a STAR product. Also STAR does not care what brand of machine you ride.

Your betcha bro!! Another one of those roadways that leave ya scratching your head wondering how in the world they built that roller coaster ride :rotf::rotf:and the scenery is breath taking!!

And we LOVED Stewarts Point,,, nothing there really,, just a quaint little hole in the wall spot on a few million dollars worth of real estate,,,, makes ya wanna plop down the tent and never leave..:cool10: Small world, cool that our paths in history crossed there eay!!:detective:

Independent?? Or the Outlaw in me just won't die? I've laid him to rest more than once but lately it seems folks just won't let him rest.

I was a shepherd for star 297 out of Fort Lauderdale Florida for 3 1/2 years on one of our local rides we had about oh it say about 80 riders with us we're doing a tour through the forest area of Central Florida one of the riders who is now the president of that chapter accused me of aggressive riding which caused her to crash her bike I at the time had a passenger who is taking pictures and we were nowhere near her when she layed her bike down. but she sent a letter to star. Complaining on my riding habits. I lost my title as lead sherperd and my tin star.

I was asked to step down by the vice Pres. of our club. The gentleman that was on the back of my bike at the time taking pictures I asked him for copies of all the shots he did while we were on a ride and it clearly showed her looking to the left as the road turns to the right. And I was for bikes behind her. I later found out that she had dropped her bike to other times that day once on her right up to Leesburg Florida and once in the parking lot wall out to dinner. my wife and I still have our star jackets but we have not been members of store for the last seven years.

I later found out about the letter that was sent to star. within a few months of people finding out what she did our star chapter 297 went from 130 members down to 30 slowly dwindle off to about 10 full-time riders now. She's now regional star Vet. And for the record her name is Shannon.

Star Rider is a member of that Chapter, Gary jump in here at anytime.....

Way to many WAR STORIES to be a Star member.

Same as being involved in the GWRRA organization.

Neither are for me !!!!

I'm not interested in any of their rules or who's who and why or how they got there.

That is really to bad Brake Pad, the word picture you just painted could have (and, IMHO, should have) been painted with a different brush - the brush of a reminder of personal responsibility..

We have a large number of friends/neighbors who ride and we have many many group rides going on any given weekend. For some reason, I always end up being selected as road captain (people like getting lost I guess).. I ALWAYS remind people (we seem to get a lot of new comers to the group) before we leave of one of my favorite sayings = "ride YOUR ride"..

A couple weekends ago we had 12 bikes, came to a corner that I throttled thru, got a couple blocks down the road and noticed I was missing three bikes from the end of the group. Went back to find a new rider on her new bike in the field beside the corner. She had not fallen, just said she was afraid to "lean" her bike and rolled into the field.. One of the other people started in on me about taking the corners to fast (same person who had chimed in about two hours earlier that I was going to slow :confused24:) causing this person to miss the corner..

Amazingly, the person who missed the corner chimed in and said "no - your wrong - Scott didnt miss the corner - I DID, I forgot to "ride my ride" and that is what went wrong".. I never had to defend myself, I just smiled and THANKED her for her wisdom!!:backinmyday:

We have all ridden together since and everyone learned and grew thru that experience.. Regrettably,, as fun as motorcycling is, I truly think it is a BAD place to begin learning personal responsibility as there are many many examples of the cost of learning it thru biking resulting in the loss of human life = price is to high!!

Was a member years ago and then a free year membership when I bought new Venture last year. It always seemed Star was getting rich for what we got out of it and wasnt worth the money. My chapter was a great bunch of guys and gals but was tired of Star telling us what we HAD to do.
