cwkane Posted September 28, 2014 #1 Posted September 28, 2014 I was wondering if anyone has installed running lights LED or otherwise on their saddle bags. I have an 05 RSV and looking at options. Pics would be nice.
Freebird Posted September 28, 2014 #2 Posted September 28, 2014 Not cheap but Diamond R Accessories makes some that fit between the saddlebag guard rails. They are a great company and make quality accessories. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV/RSTD%20LED%20Saddlebag%20Light%20Bar

I'd love to see how they'd look on one:lightbulb:
Sylvester Posted September 28, 2014 #4 Posted September 28, 2014 I have them on my Venture. I will post a pic later, since I am on the road now. They are really great lights and worth the money.
Freebird Posted September 28, 2014 #5 Posted September 28, 2014 Here is a picture from the website with them on Alan's 2000 RSV. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/prodimages/newlightbar1.jpg
djh3 Posted September 28, 2014 #6 Posted September 28, 2014 I made some LED running lights for mine. I took the reflectors off the mounts on the rear bag rail and installed them there. I also made the same modification in the front. the rears are wired to be running and turn lights while the fronts I just left as running lights. May not bee as much light as you are talking about though. (the brite strips on the bags and under the trunk are actually the reflective stripes on the bike and tag)
XV1100SE Posted September 29, 2014 #7 Posted September 29, 2014 Several threads on this but you could replace the side markers - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86518&page=2
M61A1MECH Posted September 29, 2014 #8 Posted September 29, 2014 The only thing with lighted reflectors that bill4you502 used was that they were from China and of the 6 he ordered 2 of them had bad LEDs in them, he sent me 4 (2 front & 2 Back) to prewire for him, 1 of the four was bad, he had two more drop shipped to me and one of those was bad. At the end of the day I was able to deliver 4 good units to him all plug and play but it took a while and I never did hear if he was able to get his money back on the bad units. Fortunately they are not expensive, but that is not the point.
djh3 Posted September 29, 2014 #9 Posted September 29, 2014 Mine came from the trailer supply place you use Steve. So far excellent USA made equipment from them.
djh3 Posted September 29, 2014 #11 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Mine came from E-bay also. Cant find the listing now. I think its R&P carriages on E-bay. Steve may have a better idea what the actual name is Edited September 29, 2014 by djh3
CATPower Posted September 29, 2014 #12 Posted September 29, 2014 The front lights are also reflective, on the rear had to put a reflector on too..... due that I got pulled over for not having "no rear side reflectors" (before mounting lights) And was told lights are no substitute for reflectors.
Tensilon Posted September 30, 2014 #13 Posted September 30, 2014 My bike is not an RSV it is a RSMTD however, I did install LED side marker lights to both front and back reflectors which have both running and turn signal functions. Looks stock until you turn on the key, then they are way bright. Definitely good to have some lights on the side of the bike in addition to the front and back. Cost me all of $20 for the LED's off of Ebay. Have some install pics if you are interested. Here is a few pics of the bike lighted up in the garage with the door shut. Larry....
cwkane Posted September 30, 2014 Author #14 Posted September 30, 2014 Thanks all for the ideas, a way forward. Thanks again:lightbulb:
djh3 Posted September 30, 2014 #15 Posted September 30, 2014 CATpower, if the LEO gave you a hassle over reflectors on the side of your motorcycle he must have had either a really slow day or a bad one.
CATPower Posted October 1, 2014 #16 Posted October 1, 2014 CATpower, if the LEO gave you a hassle over reflectors on the side of your motorcycle he must have had either a really slow day or a bad one. I think you are correct...... Did NOT get a ticket.. He just told me to get it fixed. He was correct.... Reflectors are a must have DOT item.
olimar1963 Posted March 9, 2015 #17 Posted March 9, 2015 Putting on passing lights (aftermarket) does it matter which one of the two wires that I ground from the light bar. Signals are hooked up separately through the system and the light will be on a toggle switch of there own. Any advice? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
olimar1963 Posted March 9, 2015 #18 Posted March 9, 2015 By the way they're brown and green Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Freebird Posted March 9, 2015 #19 Posted March 9, 2015 Since they are aftermarket, we really don't know how they are wired but typically the green will be ground. By the way, where are you from? Your profile info doesn't match your IP Address. Almost deleted you as a spammer.

sfcrader Posted March 10, 2015 #23 Posted March 10, 2015 Check out the lights I installed on saddlebags, I picked them up at auto zone. Scroll down to the second set of pics I posted. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/general-tech-talk/94923-winter-projects.html
djh3 Posted March 11, 2015 #24 Posted March 11, 2015 Wire them things up off a relay to help reduce the load on your ignition switch.
