Broncoboy36081 Posted September 27, 2014 #1 Posted September 27, 2014 Well today I noticed a little noise in the front right jug. It went away if I have it some throttle but as soon as it returned to idle it came back. It's more of a clicking ticking noise like harley lifter noise. Bring as its new I would like to find it. I'm pretty sure it's an exhaust leak but as the bike warms up it goes away.
Bob Myers Posted September 27, 2014 #2 Posted September 27, 2014 If it goes away when warmed up then it likely is an exhaust leak. Strange it would quiet down when revving it up though. Try tightening the exhaust studs just a tad while it is cold, then again while it is hot
Seaking Posted September 27, 2014 #3 Posted September 27, 2014 As odd as it may sound, check for the least obvious as well.. valve covers. I had a loose one not long ago that didn't feel loose when washing the bike, and it would make an engine ping knock like noise at certain conditions.. Only found it was loose by the time one of the bolts actually went for a walk on it's own one day..
Karfreek Posted September 27, 2014 #4 Posted September 27, 2014 What viscosity oil do you have in it? When I was running 20w-50 I would have cold start noise that was exactly as you described. Once warm, it went away. I switched it to 10w-40 and no noise cold or warm. Maybe try changing to 10w-40 if you are running 20w-50. Jay
Broncoboy36081 Posted September 27, 2014 Author #5 Posted September 27, 2014 Thanks for the reply guys. I did check for valve accents being loose. I had that problem as well. Yes to the 20w-50 oil. Next change I will try 10-40. I'm pretty sure it's either an exhaust leak or being that it's on the side stand and the highest cylinder it's the last to fill up
